Antique child’s cricket bat

Putting Pete

Cricket Spectator
I have had this interesting child’s bat in my possession for many years. It measures 24 inches in height and is 3.5 inches wide. It weighs 450 grams. I guess it is made of willow. It still has a small piece of string binding and it looks like rubber was inserted in the top of the handle.
The bat is in need of restoration.
I am wondering whether any one would be able to give me an idea as to how old it and its value as I am interested in selling it.
I would be most appreciative of any advice.

@OP, if I were you I'd try to find some similar antiques online. My guess is you'll probably be a bit disappointed as it's not in great condition.

I am surprised at the suggestion of it being a canoe paddle. We used it as a cricket bat. I realise that it is in a poor condition, but if it is old, it would be worth restoring. The shape of the collar indicates that it is old.
Please keep the suggestions coming.
Many thanks.

I think you will struggle with selling this for much. The switched on punter will immediately question how this bat could’ve been owned by an antique child. Antiques are widely known to be old, while children are almost defined by their youth.

Restore it yes but keep using it for cricket with your kids or, if that time has passed, sell it to someone else who will. That's what the value of this is, not £20.

Are you sure this is a cricket bat for kids? Reminds me of the washing paddle quite often used by washermen in earlier eras in the Indian subcontinent.

We used to have one lying around at my grandfather's house in the 1980s and I used to think it was a cricket bat until I was told that it wasn't and its actual use was I laundry.

No idea if it’d be worth money, but it’d be nice restored. Looks cool
