would you think an all round team like that be unbeatable in both test an oneday team, what are your thoughts i just pulled those players of the top of my head so make changes if you want.

But that would mean Symonds playing for both teams.

I'd say Flintoff's a strike bowler, but he's the only one. On a flat track against Bangladesh that side would rack up 400-450, but on a greentop against Australia they'd capitulate and fall in a heap, perhaps with the exception of Kallis.

A team like this can be quite competitive in a one day scenario. In tests you need specialists much more - bowlers as well as batsmen. So it wouldnt really be a good test team.

Also if you really want an unbeatable team for tests, chose 11 superb batsmen. That can mean chances of draws!

Well if Gilchrist is eligible, so are all the other keepers, so that helps matters a bit.

Also, I really think its stretching it to call Sehwag an allrounder! Gayle and Pathan are borderline as well.

He's a top order batsman, naturally. None of those who are below him in that batting order are.

Yeah but this is at international level. even Vettori has a better record than him at this stage...that's not to suggest that Watson CAN'T ever make it as a top/middle order batsman though.

I tried to pick people that would be comfortable playing in those positions. Watson has the technique to bat #4 or #5 easily, while I doubt those that followed him really did. Thats not saying that Watson is a better batsman than the likes of Flintoff, Oram etc - just that Watson would be better at #5 than those batsmen, based on the theory of comparitive advantage.

I was going more on what the players are picked as, rather than their actual records.

There is no doubt that Gayle is picked for his batting alone, and he wouldnt make a 3rd XI on his bowling. I guess the reverse could be said Pollock, but I have issues with classing batsmen who roll their arm over occassionally as allrounders.

There's no question about Watson at all. He is most certainly picked as an allrounder - he wouldnt make the Australian side any other way..

Anyway, I ended up leaving Gayle in the side, as I think he qualifies as more than simply a batsman who rolls his arm over.... just.

I have serious issues with Sehwag...
