Alec Stewart!

State Captain
I never noticed till today! The guy is nearly 40 and he plays almost as well as ever! :O
I was always under the impression that he was in his mid 30s like 35-36...

And recently he became England's most capped player, too, despite making his debut at 27 :wow:

How much longer do you think he's got?

I really don't think he has got much longer. I rate him very highly still as he is one of the more consistent players in a very average English team though

Personally the way he's going, I am all for pushing him another 12 months - as it stands we don't have anyone to cover him that's anywhere near his quality.

There will be changes with younger players coming in in the Summer, and I think that make's it all the more imperative to keep him there as a guiding light.

Why do England need to keep changing things around? They should play for TODAY and not the future.

If Gough and Jones ever come back they should glide straight into the team with Caddick, who is still a good seamer.

Stewart is brilliant and doesnt seem to have lost his enthusiasm.

Maybe introduce Bell for Crawley

Vaughan, Trescothick, Butcher, Hussain, Maybe Thorpe is a good solid middle order.

Why change? Just because England cant beat the Aussies I suppose....

How long has Stewart got?

As far as I am concerned, just as long as he wants. There isn't a wicketkeeper-batsman to come anywhere near his level of performance in the English game as yet.

OK, there's up-and-comers, but they were up-and-comers three years ago.

as long as his keeping to a decent enough standard and continues to bat they way he is he should keep playing, as far as im concerned if a player is 75 years old and still cut it, pick him.

Nicely put!

That's kinda how I feel about this at the moment. I don't think England has had as good a batsman/keeper/role-model as he for a LONG time, and I certainly feel he's got in as long as he can run reasonably fast.

There may be keepers with more agility that Stewart, so maybe he needn't keep anymore, but as a batsman/keeper, he's easily the best they have..
