Flowers XI crashes out

The Flower's XI have suffered a crushing defeat against the all-conquering Border XI. Manager DJellett was upset with the loss, but acknowledged the might of the Border XI. "I did not have ***ual relations with that team" Jellett stated, clearly confused by his first loss as manger.

U19 Vice-Captain
*Sober's XI coach Ferd takes his seat at the press conference *

"First off, I would like to thank my players and those of Hadlee XI for providing us with such a exiting match. Also thankyou to the umpires and other officals for helping this great game go ahead.

Well, this was the first really tight match we've had since I took over. And if any of you wern't watching this is what happened. Zach Roberts, the star batsman and captian of the side lost the toss and was told to field. The start was an exellent one for us with keeper Damien(I can give the rookies first names, right?) Currie catching Smith first ball off the bowling of the red hot Peter Baig. Things were all going right as Baig took the catch this time off speedster Eddy Gul Mohammed. Sutcliffe gone without troubling the scorers. Kaye and Ratcliffe then tried to put some runs on the board. We needed to slow the scoring. we got the next best thing. Soon after the bowling change all-rounder John Barnwell picked up Ratcliffe(23) caught and bowled, Ratcliffe never looked good against the slower bowlers. Cowe swagered to the crease with the score on 56. Cowe and Kaye then started to attack the bowlers as both passed the half-century mark. Mark Jones broke the partnership getting Kaye lbw for 61. The captain Roberts then brough back the quicks sensing another wicket. Baig got one to swing and Barnwell tokk it well at gully. Despite economical bowling and great accuracy particulary from veteran Dirk Viljoen ment that Hadlee's XI only reached 5/216 with Vimcent(43) and Kitson(4) finishing not out.

We then set about reaching 217 off the 50 overs left. And as opening pair Damien Currie and Eric Durrant I was quietly confident that we had another game in the bag. I was not so happy when Currie returned just two balls later caught in the deep for nought. Damien might be pushed down the order next week as he has failed to impress in his last two one day matches. But anyway on with the game. Lawrence Yapp entered and put on some quick runs before Durrant left after being given out lbw to a turning ball. Enter Super Captain and Star Batsman Zach Roberts. He and Yapp ran plently of quick singles before Yapp was deemed to be leg before. He scored 31 runs off only 34 balls in a solid performance to cement his position at 3 in the batting line-up. Stuart Carlisle, the Zimbabwe veteran made a quick-fire 23 off 21 before being bowled. Barnwell(5) and Jones(0) didn't last long but by this stage we were 6/108 and almost home. Roberts was still there as well. Viljoen(25) came in and steadied the ship as Roberts reached his 50 before Viljoen was finally bowled tring to push the run rate up. Rick Olney(35*) played the perfect partner as Roberts(73*) hit the winning runs.

Now, Rick Olney was named Man of the Match where as I think many other deserved a metion. So I have decided to annouce a Coach's Count for each match. Every game 5 players will get from 1 to 5 points towards their tally.

Coach's Count!
5 points - Zachary Roberts(73*)
4 points - Eddy Gul Mohammed(1/35 off 10)
3 points - Peter Baig(2/47 off 10)
2 points - Rick Olney(35*)
1 points - Dirk Viljoen(0/36 off 10, 25)
