South Africa Domestic Season 2024/25

Many know I love my colour coding :) and I have done mine by each union who produced them as a schoolboy.

Green on age CSA contracted
IPL means obvious SA20 contracting
Asterix means in SA20 contracted
Red means lost SA20 contract for now

Not all teams released full HP contracts. Will go into stand-out Colts not on HP list & U19s too.

Not including Mpumalanga & Limpopo in Div 2 as the limits on quality are being stretched.

If any of you guys are up for it we can play a Draft for the season?

1 Division 2 pick a must but @Kenneth Viljoen is more of an expert to start it up and the rules in place. Point systems for all 3 formats?

Imraan Khan has ended a fairly successful period with the Dolphins as head coach to work as CSA's batting lead. Quinton Friend is his assistant so wonder if he just steps up?

Highly regarded Mark Charlton has left as headcoach of Northern Cape to work with Robbie P at the Warriors too by all accounts. Much like Richard Das Neves leaving Easterns a couple seasons back to join the Titans. Just where the money is really. At the top.

Justin Kemp has replaced Rory Kleinveldt (who joined Northants as bowling coach) to be Western Province's bowling coach.
Albie Morkel has joined the Titans coaching staff.

Otherwise all other coaching set-ups remains the same. Lions Russell Domingo, Hashim Amla and Allan Donald trio is awesome for their players.

Looking forward to seeing Bird, D Smith, Prince, J Hermann, Parsons & Brevis continue their progression. Still the 6 youngest batsman to score top tier 100s in SA. JP King needs opportunity too.

Looking for that BA batsman to kick on. Mpongwana, Simelane, Mogakane are all in the A squads and probably seen as those young enough to grow into international standards. They all have up-side. Simelane should get a run to show his worth this season and needs to do so. He smoked a 100 for SA Emerging twice now off like 70 balls. Quite like the look of Mogakane for white-ball. Hits spin well too.

Two other ones are Merrick Brett and Matthew Boast. Need to see them playing more top tier cricket as bowling ARs.

Alo good to see Knights back. Looking forward to seeing how Dian Forrester takes to Div 1 as well Garnett Tarr, Tiaan van Vuuren and Johan van Dyk who has some wheels.

I'm quite happy that Division 2 teams are learning they have to take things seriously. Recruiting from the Academy teams of the top teams is the right way to go. Tuskers look formidable for the level. NC's 2 near misses has seen them lose a lot of players but they recruited well thanks to Charlton and now he is et to leave.

Division Two XI too watch
Modiri Litheko (Northern Cape Heat)
Ronan Herrman (Northern Cape Heat)
Jack Lees (Tuskers)
George van Heerden (SWD Garden Route Badgers)
Ntando Zuma (wk) (Tuskers)
Dewan Marais (Eastern Storm)
Jade de Klerk (Border EC Linyathi)
Christopher King (Limpopo)
Thomas Kaber (SWD Garden Route Badgers)
Martin Khumalo (Eastern Storm)
Stefan Tait (Northern Cape Heat)

There is an SA U17 National Camp on the go where they will pick an SA U17 side for the first time to play Zimbabwe. These guys are all eligible for the 2026 U19 CWC. Juan James' (Paul) & Lhuandre Pretorius' (Vihan) brothers from the WC earlier this year are in this one. Daniels & Soni have been capped by SA U19s already. Just find it so fascinating seeing who is producing what & which union's are doing what work.

The reason I think they doing it like this is guys still eligible for SAU19s but not the next CWC will be in contention for the SA Emerging squad in Div 2. Will go into these options soon too.

They made an error including Raeeq Daniels as he was born before 1 September 2006

The squad picked for Zim (starts 15 Sep)

WP 4
KZN C 3
Titans 2
Lions 2
KZN I 2
FS 1
NW 1

Bulbullia [SA Colts 2023 & NW HP Contract for 24/25]
van Schalkwyk [SA Schools 2023]
Lagadien [Dynamic. Broke the record for highest score (big double) at Bishops Frank Reid Oval which lasted over 30 years]
Hockly [Scoring 100s for Hilton, best u19 Inland T20 Bash batsman & now out-performing contracted Tuskers in their PL]
Rowles [Only 2008 & an absolute gun. Classy and dominant LHB]
Phahlamohlaka [Tall & dominant. Titans gave him an HP contract. In the trial match looked good back-foot player]
James [Performed at U19 weeks at 16 end of last year & best WP junior bat since Bird/D Smith]
Bosman [Been excellent at both SA U17 camps, adaptable middle order player and classy LHB]

Leketa [Kroonstad Hub to St Andrews Bloem; played FS Colts 23/24]
Kleinsmith [Maybe a surprise pick over Cannata but they were always taking a wrist-spinner]

Soni [SA Schools 2023; Young Guns Fast-bowling camp, tall, angles into right-handers]
Majola [16 at the U19 Coke Week; nicking top-order batsmen off ; Young Guns Fast-bowling camp]
Boyce [16 at Cubs Week; seems a very flexible mover in his run up, good speeds ; Young guns Fast-bowling camp]
Basson [Think Marco Jansen]
Rajah [Need to see more]

As expected, Quinny Friend, is the new Dolphins head coach. Seems ages ago when I remember him debuting or at least early on as the quick first change bowler for WP behind Willoughby and Dawson.

Mduduzi Mbatha also highly regarded with a promotion.

Wow, certainly some pretty handy players there.

That WP batting lineup especially is quite something
Proteas in WP blue ha

Others who played that season were Andrew Puttick, HD Ackerman, JP Duminy, Claude Henderson , Rory Kleinveldt & Roger Telemachus. All Proteas are Proteas to be.

There are so many provincial T20 comps going on. Pre-season schedule nearly finished for the season to start.

The Titans had a series of games against Border (who won the Div 2 4-team comp with Limpopo, Northern Cape, Easterns) and then young amateurs (both club and schoolboys) from around the country.

The interesting players used were mainly Matt Boast, Merrick Brett, Letsholo Selemela & Leo Sadler all seamer ARs or seamers. As well as spinner Schalk Engelbrecht & recent SA U19 call-up Lethabo Phalamohlaka.

Dolphins & Knights played 2 warm-up T20 games yesterday.

Good to see schoolboys Nqobani Mokoena & recent SA U19 emerging selection Ntando Soni there.
