For mine, what defined the strength of SA as an ODI side was their all-rounders; they always seemed to have 3-4 quality allrounders in their squad in the 90s & 00s.

The last couple of WCs they have the likes of Behardien and Phehlukwayo who are hardly going to intimidate opponents with their all round capabilities.

Phehlukwayo is far better than Behardein, who's bowling was barely part time at international level. Poor comparison imo

Nah it's purely their batting. De Villiers would have made a massive difference to their chances but this has been a slow decline over the last 4 years.

Rabada and Ngidi not turning up has made a huge difference as well.

Makes more sense. As a bowler I would prefer Phehlukwayo to someone like Morris who is probably more naturally talented but tends to misfire and leak runs with concerning regularity

Have to say though it's good to see Amir back hitting his straps in this comp with the white ball...almost missing out seems to have given him a kick up the arse and he has responded really really well, wickets econcomy and his pace is back up,,,good to see.
