2024–25 NZ domestic season

Haha this is a crazy Auckland side:

SM Solia*, SB Keene, WT O'Donnell, MH Sclanders, JJ McKenzie, JDS Neesham, CD Fletcher†, BJ Jacobs, A Ashok, DK Ferns, LH Ferguson, LJ Delport (12ᵗʰ)

You've got Neesham and Ferguson turning up, Keene opening, McKenzie playing, Jacobs apparently having moved from Canterbury, and at the end of the day there's 8 (edit: 7) bowlers and a specialist bat at 8.

Meanwhile Lellman is opening for ND with Raval at 6 and Wagner 12th man, Georgeson is captaining Otago (in a format in which he has a shockingly good all-round record), Lennox is captaining CD, and Milne is turning up for Wellington.

It looks like the only games that I could reasonably get to while I am in nz for Christmas will be in Alexandra, that's quite annoying

What's with Simon Keene's transition from opening bowler to opening batter?
The career path of him becoming a 'specialist' bowler for Auckland in first place was probably the weirder thing, tbh. Given he was top order bat at youth level. Batted 3 for NZ U19s at world cup. Not a great number 3 and in a mediocre nz team, but a number 3 never-the-less. His bowling looked 3rd/4th seamer style.

But in saying that, have no idea how his batting has gone at club and Prov A level since he got dropped by the Aces. Maybe it is a Hail Mary pick after Finn stubbed a toe or something. Maybe it's a pick on lower level form.

The return of the domestic season is always welcome.

Pleased to see Ashok is fit, playing and taking wickets. We don't have a lot of next generation spinners.

Foulkes also picked up where he left off last season.

Will O'Donnell with the first century - should he be making NZ A sides now?

Canterbury in danger of actually being bowled out with only an a over average score despite Bowes’ double

Wow

I get that we have 15 guys over in India at the moment but am I the only one who is insanely underwhelmed by the looks of these domestic sides? Lacking some real quality even with a tour going on.
