2012 World T20 Qualification

The road for 2012 WT20 Qualification has started. A total of 102 Teams will take part in WT20 or through the qualification.

The 2012 WT20 will have 16 teams. 10 test nations and 6 Qualification spots.

In 2012 a qualifying tournament will take place for the 6 spots on grabs. A total of 16 teams will be taking part in the qualifying tournament. Like FIFA the spots have been reserved region wise

ODI Status Nations-6 (Afg, Can, Ire, Ken, Neth & Scot)
Asia:- 3
Europe:- 2
Africa:- 2
Americas:- 2
EAP:- 1

The various tournament to reach these spots are as follows

ASIA
2009-10 (Various hosts):- ACC tournaments in Senior, U-19, U-15 to determine ACC rankings. Teams eliminated based on ranking:- China, Brunei, Singapore, Qatar, Iran, Bahrain, Myanmar & Thailand

ACC T20 (Nov, Nepal) :- Afghanistan, Nepal, UAE, Oman, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Bhutan, Kuwait, Maldives, Saudi Arabia
The top 3 teams besides Afghanistan will qualify for the WT20Q

AFRICA
ICC Africa Division 3 (Feb, Ghana):- Cameroon, Gambia, Lesotho, Mali, Morocco, Rwanda, Seychelles.
It was won by Rwanda defeating Seychelles and qualifying for Africa Div 2

ICC Africa Division 2 (Apr, SA):- Zambia, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tanzania, Nigeria, Botswana, Winner Africa Div 3(Rwanda)

ICC Africa (Premier League) (Jul, Ken):- Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, South Africa Emerging, Zimbabwe Emerging, Winner from ICC Africa Division 2
The 2 teams ranked highest besides SA, Zim & Ken will qualify for the qualifier

AMERICAS:-
ICC Americas Division 3 (Mar, Costa Rica):- Belize, Chile, Peru, Mexico,Costa Rica, Falkland Islands
Belize defeated Peru to reach Americas Div 2

ICC Americas Division 2 (Apr, Suriname):- Bahamas, Belize (Winner Americas Div 3), Brazil, Panama, Suriname, Turks and Caicos Islands
Suriname Defeated Panama to qualify for Americas Div 1 & WCL Div 8.

ICC America Division 1 (Jul, Canada):- Argentina, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, USA, Winner Americas Div 2(Suriname)
Top 2 teams besides Canada will qualify for the WT20Q

EUROPE
ICC Europe Division 3 (May, Slovenia):- Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey

ICC Europe Division 2 (Jun, Belgium):- Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, Hellas, Isle of Man, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, winner of ICC Europe Division 3

ICC Europe Division 1 (Jul, Jersey/Guernsey):- Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Israel, Italy, Jersey, Norway, Spain, Winner from ICC Europe Division 2

EAP
ICC EAP Division 2 (Apr, Samoa):- Indonesia, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Philippines, South Korea
Samoa defeated new comers Philippines to qualify for EAP Div 1 and WCL Div 8

ICC EAP Division 1 (Jul, PNG):- PNG, Fiji, Japan, Vanuatu, Winner EAP Div 2(Samoa)

Automatic Qualification:-
God nations AKA Test Nations:- Aus, BD, Eng, Ind, NZ, Pak, SA, SL, WI & Zim

Yes that is true. 1 out of 12 is quite steep to move ahead. Rest are decent only, 1 out of 6 mostly. Africa probably wants to shield Uganda and Namibia who are /have been HPP members.

I have been following the qualification. Some really interesting games and playing prediction game of Sportguru. Really enjoying it

Cuba and St Helena are the 2 members I could locate, who are not part of the tournament. 1 more ICC member is not part of tournament and most likely would not have even sent out a team to play for any ICC sanctioned tournament.

You are right, Tanzania, Oman, Kuwait, Malaysia would be good teams missing out. Lets see. You can have many surprises. In EAP tournament, Philippines who played for first time reached the final. South Korea also managed to have some wins and defeated much talked about Indonesia to make them finish last

Its impossible to find out who actually represents our country. There is a link to a wikipedia article but it seems obsolete. Not to mention there are only 3 czech names in it...could it be that our "national team" consisted of almost exclusively of foreigners? Aka to represent a certain country you dont need its passport?

Hi Jan, no you don't need to be in passport holders. As per ICC norms, for representing a nation you need to be resident of that country for 7 years (Staying more than 180 days/year in that country). However you can field 3 players in playing 11 with a relaxed norm of 4 years. It is for this reason that many players in Middle East teams are above 30, because they play cricket in South Asia, fail and then shift to middle east. Get into the team after 4 years. Keep playing till the time you have 7 years in that nation and now you have more people coming in team with 4 years and the chain continues

If you are a Passport Holder residing in other country then you can straight away represent your country. Many Aussie's are passport holders of various European countries and represent them.

I'm finding it hard to get into the lower level regional tournaments. Hopefully once we get to the Div 1 regionals, things will heat up a bit.

The final qualifier should be a very interesting tournament, with so many teams and the chance of some underdogs getting through...

Since Mali came last in the group of 4, it was st away given 7th Rank.

Totally! If only they'd played a bit better in the 2005 ICC trophy. You just get the feeling teams like Canada are so far ahead now purely because they get more matches against the other 5.


Would love to see 20 teams one day but i think even 16 is probably a stretch.
