Vaughan not picked for India tour

Didnt see any post which this would really fit into so i thought id make one :ph34r:

Just heard on the radio that the ECB have announced that Vaughan wont be picked for the tour of India. You have to wonder if he will ever play for England again and also raises questions why he was given a central contract.

Makes little sense to me!

If he is fully fit seems a very strange decision, as you say, to give him a central contract & not pick him to tour.

I read somewhere that Vaughan himself has pulled out of this tour, but if ECB are the one' who decided that he won't tour India, then they should explain why they have handed him over with a central contract.

Incredibly odd, as already stated, to give him a contract if they were going to do this.

Right then, can only hope he's going to play in SA or elsewhere and do exceptionally.

Not convinced Mick's head or body are right just now. Hardly made a run since the pressures of captaincy were lifted.

This isn't a surprise for me, there was obviously the precedent of Strauss last year, but the central contract is looking either like wishful thinking or an old pal's act from KP, who I believe advocated Vaughan's retention from what I've read.

I guess it means Patel is more likely to tour with the test party now tho, so every cloud & all that.

I'm of the growing opinion that Michael Vaughan is nothing more than an average player who happened to hit a purple patch of form at an opportune time. His Test record for the last 50 tests, and his First Class career record is certainly nothing to get over excited about.

If it was it was a particular deep and lustrous shade of purple that retained its brilliance for a considerable time

Bopara for Shah would be the only alteration I could see (his call for the 4th test seems to suggest he's again leapfrogged the unfortunate Middlesex man), unless Tiny Tim's perceived failure with the bat has dropped him a few places back in the queue and AN Other keeper (hopefully Foster, but more likely to be Davies or Mustard) goes along if a second stumper is deemed necessary. Suspect it will be too as there's a v quick turnaround between the two (:@) tests and we might be forced to field a non-specialist if Prior breaks a finger or something.

Meant to put Bopara in, it's a travesty that he's ahead of Shah but that does seem to be their way of thinking. I was going to say that the fact that Ambrose receiving a secondary contract suggests to me that he's still in their thinking; it then dawned on me what the irony of writing that in this thread would be.

Yep. He was an absolutely wonderful player in his prime. That prime may or may not be past but I haven't given up hope entirely.
