Scotland Under-19s v Cricket Web Under-19s
at The Grange, Edinburgh
Once again, the Cricket Web tourists won without impressing, though there were occasional flashes of brilliance at The Grange. After winning the toss, captain Thamba Mamesh opted for batting practice against good Scottish seamers, but although runs came, they were mostly off the edges, and it wasn't completely unfair when Berrington hung on to a catch to send Jasotharan back for 17. Mamesh and Pitt followed shortly afterwards, leaving the score at 60 for 3, with Ben Vaughan and Stephen Burke at the crease.
The pair took their time, never really going after the bowlers, but nurdling the singles and ensuring they did not get out in good one-day innings. Both passed fifty with leg side pushes off Farid, and the last three overs even saw a couple of boundaries, with 22 conceded off the lat 18 balls. Still, the total of 224 for 3 looked modest even on a slow Grange outfield.
It turned out to be enough - just. Scotland lost opener Hislop in the very first over, as Cameron trapped him lbw with what a local claimed was "the fastest ball delivered by that young a lad up here". Cameron persisted, also having Goudie bowled in a tight opening spell, and Scotland never really got the runs going after that, as persisting wicket-to-wicket accuracy gave away few runs and even fewer wickets. Eventually, captain Farid was run out attempting the second run off an off-side drive, and with 89 needed in 13 overs, Scotland gave up and just batted out the 50 overs, with MacLennan recording a fine unbeaten 31.
