Bandara and Jayasuriya Set Up Sri Lanka

India were bowled out for a well below par score of 224 in the 46th over thanks to the back in favour Chandara Bandara who took a inspirational 4 for 42 from 9 overs. He had back up from his spin partner, Muralitharan, who took 3 for 41 from 10.
The only highlight, this time around, for the Indians was the partnership between Uthappa and Ganguly for the second wicket.

In reply the Sri Lankans were a team on a mission, with Jayasuriya and Marvin Atapattu crashing the Indian bowling all around the park to win by 9 wickets. The undefeated partnership of 205 came in quick time and the Sri Lankans won with 57 balls to spare.
Jayasuriya finished not out with 111 (off 137 balls) and Atapattu ended with 96 (off 95 balls), just four runs short of another ODI ton.

Sri Lanka Too Slow

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat, slowly. Making just 193 runs from their 50 overs for the loss of just 7 wickets was the downfall for the Sri Lankan team as they went down three games to one in the best of season series versus India.

Harbhajan Singh was the pick of the bowlers, again, for India, restricting the Sri Lankan middle overs with tidy figures of two for twenty seven from ten.

In reply, the Indian's slowly worked their way to the target, finally reaching their goal in the 44th over. Opener Uthappa was unlucky not to come out with triple figures, ending not out on 94. Ganguly aided in the victory with a nice, well played innings of 44.

India Seal Away Series Win

An unbeaten 151 from Sachin Tendulkar set India up for a nailbiting victory over hosts Sri Lanka in the fifth one dayer.
Tendulkar scored his runs at just shy of a run a ball and his brilliant innings included only 15 boundaries with nothing going over the ropes. He worked hard and formed two large partnerships with Uthappa and Ganguly respectively.

In reply the Sri Lankans fell just 8 runs short, needing to take to Zaheer Khan in the final over of the match but just failing. Marvin Atapattu was the top scorer in the run fest with a well made 130 from number 3 and wicket keeper batsmen Sangakkara was not out with another elegant innings of 88.

It wasn't a good day to be a bowler.

Sri Lanka Win a Tight Contest

Slow batting from India, after winning the toss and electing to bat, cost them the game. Only making 222 from their 50 overs, for the loss of just one wicket, and opener Uthappa making an unbeaten ton in the last over.

Uthappa was the mainstay, as Dravid and Ganguly made 49 and 60 not out respectively, although none of the three Indian batsmen made it into second gear. Blame could be dealt to the Indian selectors who left the little master out of the team, resting him for a sore thumb.

The Sri Lankan bowling could be a weakness to address in future competition, having only taken 21 wickets from the 6 matches to date.

In reply the Sri Lankan's, also, didn't manage to get out of second gear as they cruised to victory in the 48th over. Atapattu and Jayawardene topscored with 52 a piece.

Ajit Agarkar kept it tight for India, finishing with figure of 2 for 35 from ten.

Batsmen Dominate Once More

India won the final, dead rubber, match of the series by pipping the Sri Lankan's in another run-fest. The Indian batting line up once again dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers, only losing 4 wickets in their 50 overs, with Ganguly, Tendulkar and Dravid once again the stand outs.
Malinga was the only Sri Lankan bowler to take multiple wickets, but at more than 6 an over.

In reply the Sri Lankan's came out all guns blazing with openers Jayasuriya and Tharanga hitting early boundaries, clearing the rope as much as going through it.
Regular wickets ultimately was the downfall for the run chase, though, as the Sri Lankan outfit fell 17 runs short of their goal of 297. The tail wagged with Muralitharan and Maharoof both making effective, if not ugly, contributions.
