    *Official* Emerging Nations Cricket Thread

Yes, good question. According to the St Helena Cricket website it is the most popular participation sport on the island. They've had a league since 1903. The team all seem to be islanders, but a lot of Saint Helenans and descendants live in South Africa and the UK, so perhaps some of the...

Nigeria 🇳🇬 v Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 is a fixture you’re more likely to see in soccer, but check out this scorecard. https://www.espn.com.au/cricket/series/1459372/scorecard/1459387/nigeria-vs-ivory-coast-14th-match-icc-mens-t20-world-cup-sub-regional-africa-qualifier-group-c-2024-25

    Unpopular Cricket Opinions

Yeah I still remember the amount of personal vitriol I copped when I commented in the Australian Cricket Scores and Updates Facebook group that Langer needed to let it go and move on. Just unbelievable. I love Australia but this mix of mawkish sentimentality and bombastic nationalism some...

    Australian Doom and Gloom Thread

Definitely concerns over the batting but it is way too early in this series to sound the doom klaxon. We all know how hard Aus are to beat at home and it’s very possible they will come back stronger. Even this game isn’t over yet, you never know.

    Unpopular Cricket Opinions

This might not be an unpopular opinion but I don’t really want to start posting in the sub forum for Aus-Ind. You should never criticise a batsman for getting a golden duck unless they do something manifestly stupid/reckless. I’ve noticed some cricket journos are including Smith in criticism of...

    **Official** English Football Season 2024/25

San Marino beat Liechtenstein 3-1 and are promoted to Nations League C whatever that is.

    2024–25 Australian Domestic Season

I’m just an opener who doesn’t like to listen to other openers complaining about how hard it is to be an opener. For what it’s worth a lot of good club cricketers in NZ avoid opening for similar reasons.

    2024–25 Australian Domestic Season

What a bunch of crybabies. I thought Aussie cricketers were supposed to be tough. Try opening in New Zealand or England, or against spinners in 38c on an Indian turner, and come back to us...

*Official* New Zealand vs Sri Lanka- White Ball Tour of SL- November, 2024

I am obviously delighted that my second grade teammate has finally won his much deserved first cap.

New Zealand doom and gloom thread

I was also there that day, and consider it the best innings I have seen live. Had hospo tickets from work for the day, and was desperate to see Sanga make runs. Remember following the last few overs of the evening before, hoping he wouldn't get out.

*Official* New Zealand in Sri Lanka

Normally I’d say a white ball series like this is pointless but since it may lead to the debut of the best young cricketer I’ve ever played alongside, this one is different. The prophecy will be fulfilled.

*Official* Pakistan in Australia 2024 (white ball tour)

I heard some stories about him around Melbourne grade cricket. Those stories suggest he is both. But they're very much third hand.

    Bit predictable.

How much does captaincy impact results?

Yeah look that was not his finest hour, he acknowledges that. But one mistake should not define him. Worth remembering Simon Jones did his ACL early on that first day. No way he could've planned for that.

How much does captaincy impact results?

It's true there is only so much you can do with the players at your disposal. Nasser Hussain was a better captain than Vaughan or Strauss IMHO yet his record is worse because of the side he led. He is arguably the best captain England has had after Brearley, who is always the standard for this...

How much does captaincy impact results?

That was the inspiration, I've seen a similar thing said about soccer management.

How much does captaincy impact results?

A good captain can improve performance 10%, but a bad one can reduce it 50%. Captaincy in cricket is much more important than it is in most other sports.

England players and selection discussion thread

Yes even the obscure Paul Franks played an ODI but never amounted to much in real life. Very effective on early ICC editions though, from memory.
