    James Anderson vs Andy Roberts

I will pick Anderson because from 01 Jan 2010 onwards, he picked 556 wickets at avg of 24 where his away average was 27 and home average was 22. Longevity can’t be understated as it is never easy to replace a 25-26 averaging fast bowler with another one who could replicate the same. West Indies...

Worst batsman with a 50 average

a distant 3rd best. Well behind Root and Smith. Look at his record vs SENAI away. He averages 33 there

Worst batsman with a 50 average

why not? Doesn’t he have huge disparity between home and away averages? Also his away record vs good sides is not great.

    Virat Kohli vs Martin Crowe

Yeah that year was his best. But when you play more games, it is expected that you perform more.

    Virat Kohli vs Martin Crowe

I think for Kohli, the peer reputation is more influenced by his output in white ball cricket. He is great in Aus and SA but very flawed everywhere else.

    Virat Kohli vs Martin Crowe

I really feel Martin Crowe is one of the highly rated batsman to not average 50 in Test cricket. He is rated arguably better than any other batsman that has averaged below 50.

Worst batsman with a 50 average

Among those with 5000+ runs, Yousuf Hussey Chanderpaul Williamson

    Pollock vs Shoaib

Pollock. He was brilliant in 90s, albeit second to Donald.

    Dale Steyn vs Wasim Akram

All formats combined, Wasim. Tests - Steyn.

    Michael Holding vs Waqar Younis

and when did Marshall became spearhead? Garner’s career also coincided with Holding.

    Michael Holding vs Waqar Younis

Tough one. Both of them are top 10-15 test bowlers in my opinion. Hard to pick one.

Is Jasprit Bumrah an ATG test bowler?

Alright then, I think I am still fair in my comparisons. I excluded BD and WI for modern era pacers. I excluded Zim and BD for pacers from 90s. SL were also minnows only till early 90s. But I have included them. I think picking a lot of wickets vs these sides in that era doesn’t really mean a...

Is Jasprit Bumrah an ATG test bowler?

I think Bangladesh is probably a better side than being called as minnows. But again I don’t think we can equate the quality of wickets taken of Bangladeshi batters to the quality of wickets taken of England or Australia batters. If Rabada or Bumrah picks 5-fer vs Aus and then picks 5-fer vs...

Is Jasprit Bumrah an ATG test bowler?

what is a true minnow as per you? For me, a team that wins occasionally vs a good side but loses most of its games is a minnow. West Indies or Bangladesh can win occasionally vs Australia or New Zealand respectively but they will likely lose a lot of games . It will be like 3-4 wins vs 25...

Is Jasprit Bumrah an ATG test bowler?

Yes, Steyn falls in that era where pitches were relatively flat. 90s produced so many great bowlers or bowlers averaging under 25. But between 2000-15, there weren’t really many standouts except Steyn, McGrath and Shoaib Akhtar ( for a short period) averaging well under 25.

Is Jasprit Bumrah an ATG test bowler?

You are probably true due to flat pitches produced there but I think if I exclude Pakistan/ UAE, the records of other pacers still fall well behind Bumrah. Actually surprisingly Steyn, Anderson and Cummins have very good record in Pak/UAE. They have found success using reverse swing.

Is Jasprit Bumrah an ATG test bowler?

His away record excluding minnows really sets him apart from not just this era bowlers but even quite a few from 90s too. In the era of Ambrose, Wasim, Donald, Waqar and Pollock, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh can be referred as minnows. If we exclude them and look at away record, the stats are:-...

Is Jasprit Bumrah an ATG test bowler?

One aspect in which Bumrah is well ahead of the rest is his record away from home excluding minnows. In modern era, the minnows would usually be referred for West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Bumrah’s record is great against them but if you look at away record excluding these minnows and...
