Best players in certain age ranges

Yes, I agree. Also for most of that 35-39 range Anderson played as part of a 5 bowling attack so wickets would be shared out more anyway.

Best players in certain age ranges

Gooch probably should be in the 35-39 category.

Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Harry Brook vs Kamindu Mendis

    Good comedy post. Well done.

Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Harry Brook vs Kamindu Mendis

He just turned 26 and it's not like Sri Lanka have a lot of batting resources. He has more chance of surviving slumps than the much younger Jaiswal.

** Official Cricketweb Horseracing thread **

Not saying it to be a d1ck, but other than their sprinters does anyone even take Australian racing seriously? Amazing prize money though.

Team of all rounders v specialists

They don't need to be consistent. If you've got 5 all rounders (vs none) batting from 7 to 11 and all are capable of scoring big runs on their day, then the more you have the higher the chances of someone getting a big score.

Team of all rounders v specialists

Tiring out the specialist bowlers is the path to victory for the all rounders. So a flattish pitch and it probably favours the all round side more.

Clyde Walcott as keeper in the all rounders team (has 11 Test wickets)

    Best Cricket Xi (from 2000s)

I'd pick Watson over Warner to open. Watson won't be any worse than Warner away and the Aus batting will be crazy strong at home without Warner anyway. Also Watsons bowling allows Mitch Johnson to bowl in 4 over spells and that's arguably when he was most effective.

    All-time Australia XIs - A re-run

Please excuse the interruption, but how has Colin funky Miller who was Australian Test player of the year in 2001, in possibly the strongest Australian team ever not made one of the sides? Okay he didn't play a lot of Tests, but there are guys with far fewer Tests than him who have already...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Those games where the World XI faced the West Indies were notoriously low scoring. They played 8 games. No one from either team got a 100, but there were 3 scores in the 90s. Barry Richards got 2 of them..

    Kane Williamson vs Joe Root

Root just needs one standout series in Australia and the Fab 4 become the Tremendous 2 (Smith and Root)

England players and selection discussion thread

Hate to sound like a broken record, but having Dawson in the side for the past however many years would have helped balance the team out in Stokes absence.

Jacques Kallis vs AB de Villiers

Yeah, that's why I said "he was meant to be an opener" as that's the role SA cricket groomed him for, failed and "got sent back down to 5" Doesn't really matter either way. The point to take out of it is that he failed.

Jacques Kallis vs AB de Villiers

No, you're wrong. He was an opener. He debuted in domestic first class and one day cricket as an opener, played most his games in those formats as an opener and then debuted for SA Test and ODI teams as an opener. He kept wicket domestically in T20s and batted down the order. Batting down the...

Jacques Kallis vs AB de Villiers

Think people forget sometimes that AB was meant to be an opener, but failed in that position so got sent back down to 5.

    Continent draft (voting)

Tough decision, but the pace trio of Marshall, Lillee and Holding is about as good as it gets, so my vote goes to ataraxias team.

    Continent draft (voting)

How did JOJO manage to end up with both Warne and Murali?

Which Australian test team looks stronger?

Good call. Border got runs in every position from 3 to 6, so wouldn't bet against him averaging high 40s as an opener
