    Younis Khan vs Graeme Smith

Younis made the most of his limitations v seam in a batting era. Very gutsy player. His strategy was to see out good pacers and target spinners (whom he was ruthless against) and weaker pacers. In an era where quality pace is more prominent, this strategy is less successful because your scoring...

    Younis Khan vs Graeme Smith

Younis wasn't better than Yousuf v pace. I wouldn't say Yousuf had a more misleading record specifically outside Asia per sey. Younis was a lot better v spin, and mentally stronger.

    Younis Khan vs Graeme Smith

    Smith

David Gower vs Inzamam ul Haq

I like both and consider them ATVG, but I'd take Gower.

    S Anwar Vs M Waugh

Both very high quality. I think Mark Waugh has become underrated.

    Z Abbas Vs D Martyn

Martyn probably better. Big fan of both.

    Ricky Ponting vs Dennis Lillee

Don't think Cummins would be that good a captain for a middling team tbh. Think Smith was better tactically.

    Someone more like broad?

Best visiting Test batsmen in each country

Yeah when I did a trio for each I included Hutton for Aus. Gooch 1981 beats Dravid 1997 convincingly. Not sure I'd include Gavaskar though. Outstanding application v the mediocre attacks faced there but think he'd need to do a bit better in 82.

Haha. Australians seem to like Cook though. Maybe they didn't mind seeing him in detail so much.

Yeah I can relate to being annoyed by that despite being an England fan. I just think as a person, he seems fairly innocuous to me. There's obviously something I'm missing beyond the grumpy introversion.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Is Anderson hated so much by some because of his character or more because of the relentless English media fawning? He's not the most endearing personality, but I'm surprised people get so wound up by him. Especially supporters of the country he traditionally struggles against. Think his...

Best visiting Test batsmen in each country

Tendulkar slightly more consistent there but yeah Viv had an ATG tour and was born to bat in Australian conditions.

Best visiting Test batsmen in each country

Dravid or even Gooch over Gavaskar in WI. Dravid did well v Ambrose/Walsh before two iconic performances on Sabina Park minefields later in his career. Gooch scored over 50% of England's runs in tons at Sabina Park and Kensington Oval v ATG attacks. S Waugh one of the best there. Very good v...

Yeah fair enough. I think England are ahead, but the lack of gulf is damning on the ECB's part and reflects well on NZ cricket given the rather immense gulf in population and board money. Can't even blame the old "we can't play all year round because of the weather" when comparing to NZ😁

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

3-5s are close but I think I'd just take England's just. Don't quite rate Ross Taylor in the same company as the other five batters. Root slightly better than Kane imo. Crowe slightly better than Gower. If you take Flintoff at 8 out then NZ do have significantly better batting depth, but...

Bedser was the slowest out of them.

I actually rate Snow over Statham. Pure output probably isn't as good overall but think he has enough scope to be judged as the superior bowler. Better record v top sides and played in less bowler-friendly times. Suspect he was the more penetrative of the two on flat pitches. Obviously a rung...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Snow over Bedser is interesting but I think I agree with it. Snow doesn't have outstanding output but he had two ATG series and both away from home which is a point of difference among England bowlers.

Stacked batting for England. B team would have the likes of Boycott, Cowdrey, Dexter and Hendren.
