A possible amendment to the Hawkeye system/DRS

On quite a number of occasions it has been that the umpire's decision to award a potential snick behind has been series-defining. Pakistan suffered a series loss as a result of Jimmy Adams being given not-out by a heavily biased Billy Doctrove in the Antigua Test of 2000, and the same fate...

If not for match fixing, how would Hansie and Azhar be remembered?

One must wonder as to what proportion their failures were due to match-fixing rather than an inability/inconsistency. Agree with most on here about Azharuddin - certainly had the midas touch.

Old cricket footage you would like to see

Any full spell from Fazal Mahmood and Sydney Barnes. Such a shame pre-1970 footage was hardly recorded.

Old cricket footage you would like to see

Thanks but I have already seen this. Was looking for a video of the full over, in which a relatively young Zahid apparently masterfully set up the great batsman.

Old cricket footage you would like to see

Definitely would love to see Mohammed Zahid's full over to Brian Lara in the Carlton and United Series of 96/97 - before the back injuries that unfortunately cut short his career. Both Hooper and Lara claim he was the fastest bowler he has ever seen, as does his fellow haywire Shoaib Akhtar.

Will Mitchell Johnson ever be as effective as he once was?

For the people who followed the Ashes of 2013-2014 held in Australia, watching Mitchell Johnson must have been akin to a Dennis Lillee steaming in at the MCG and the WACA during the bloody 1970's and 1980's. Pure pace, hostility, aggression, malice - these were all terms attributed to Mitchell...

Umpires bending their backs during the delivery stride – when did the change occur?

After having looked through some old clips of cricket in the past, I wanted to ask a question to the knowledgeable posters of this forum. In Test matches of yore, one feature that I noticed appears to have stayed constant is umpires bending their backs during the bowler's delivery stride (most...

*Official* Pakistan v Australia in UAE 2014

Pakistan have been playing in the UAE for decades, ever since '84 (think of the Austral-Asia Cup in 1986 and Miandad's last-ball six against India). Sharjah was a focal location of ODI tri-series during the late 90's but didn't host any Test matches. Even England (who I assume you support given...

*Official* Pakistan v Australia in UAE 2014

I don't know if anybody is interested but I wrote this earlier: Is 'unpredictability' no longer a synonym for Pakistan cricket? Throughout Pakistan's cricketing history, it has been considered as the eponymous upholder of unpredictability, flair and controversy. Administrative problems...

    Tennis-ball / Tape-ball Cricket

I haven't posted on CW in a while, but I thought I'd contribute and add a much-needed Pakistan flavour to this thread. Most people's experiences of this variant of cricket will likely be different than mine as their games seem to be time-limited quick fixes rather than any prolonged game. I've...

*Official* Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2014

^ Don't ever recall that. Not doubting you but are there any links which refer to such a request? I do remember Jamshed attributing his dire run of form somewhat to his sudden loss of weight however. Quite a poor and uneducated view to have.

*Official* Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2014

Jamshed's form dropped ridiculously after his consecutive centuries against India. A 50 in the 2013 Champions Trophy game against West Indies aside, he looked a shadow of the batsman who was churning out 100s for fun against India. Nasir Jamshed just seemed to lose it mentally - even failing to...

*Official* Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2014

Finally, a Pakistani wicket-keeper scores a Test century after a duration of five years! Well deserved after playing the extremely deceptive and menacing Rangana Herath with such ease and aggressive intent. Not falsely trying to jump on the 'I always supported Sarfraz's inclusion' bandwagon but...

A powerful and emotive tribute to a fantastic bowler.

    Jos Buttler Appreciation thread

I watched his innings against Sri Lanka earlier this year (the century at Lord's) and this was my response at the time: Wonderful stroke-maker and somebody who I feel could become a marquee player for England in the future, particularly in LOIs.

    Ball-tampering: should it be authorised?

PLEASE READ THE OP BEFORE POSTING! This is a video which I discovered a few months ago, one which includes footage of Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram and Aaqib Javed allegedly tampering with the ball during the 1992 Test series tour to England. Every passionate Pakistan supporter is well aware of...

*Official* Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2014

Just looked at the scorecard and discovered that Dilruwan Perera attained a five-wicket haul. Even if he may have been the leading wicket-taker in SA's tour to Sri Lanka, he bowled atrociously yesterday and was dispatched to all parts by our batsmen - especially Younus Khan who took a...

*Official* Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2014

That would be somewhat amusing if it happened again but Ajmal has no beard - no possibility of such a stereotype being mentioned in reference to Ajmal. :) Anyhow, Id rather listen to Dean Jones' commentary (Dean Jones being someone who knows something about Pakistan cricket and cricket in...

*Official* Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2014

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to catch any of yesterday's play live (due to waking up late) and it seems that will be the same case for today too; 5 AM is simply too early to wake up and begin watching a Test match. However, I've just managed to catch the highlights of yesterday's play and was...

*Official* Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2014

Smalishah84, these are my predictions: Ajmal Younus Khan 1-0 to Pakistan (passionate Pakistani supporter!) Ajmal As do/did many people. The claims of him being the Pakistan domestic Richard Hadlee have been spread in hushed tones, but it seems that isn't the case. He played a few televised...
