Ten reasons why England will be world number one!

I am not so sure about this. Remember half our matches are in England where 45 is a superb average. We dont have the flat tracks to inflat the averages. Sure it would make it easier but 6 batmen averaging 45 would be more than enough with a keeper averaging 40 and 8/9 averaging 25. Thats...

Ten reasons why England will be world number one!

I like Simon Hughes, he knows what he is talking about. The fact is all those things will help but unless we have the bowlers we wont be a perminent number one.

I have to disagree that unpredictable bounce tests how good a batsmen is though. It just becomes a lottery. True it can make for good matches on occasions but not overall. And some great players could cope with it but I am not sure its a prerequisite for greatness as such but maybe another...

I was thinking from a spinners view too. Generally they love bounce too. Unpredictable bounce is better I agree but that goes for all bowlers and is unfair on the batsmen (though no more so than a flat track is for bowlers).

    Harris vs. Hauritz vs. Swann

Now those stats make more sense. Can I ask where you got them....would be interesting.

Well yes, on some pitches at the moment I agree. Would be better to have an even contest throughout with help for bowler and batsmen though. Probably not going to happen though!!

When has McGrath done well on low slow pitches? Maybe he has, but not consistently I dont think. Not many bowlers do unless they posess reverse swing and searing pace. He does have a good record in India, but the majority of his wickets there were not on low, slow pitches. In 2001 all the...

    Harris vs. Hauritz vs. Swann

I hate to ruin a good stat but Swanns average against Right Handers makes no sense and does not mean what people think. He is shown to average 45 against Right Handers and 32 against Left Handers on Cricinfo. But his Test bowling average is 30. Which hand do all those wickets he has got bat...

Low and slow is useless to all bowlers. Bounce and carry is what all bowlers need. Variable bounce is just unfair to batsmen. The perfect Sub Cont pitch is turn from the start and bounce. The seamers can use the bounce and at least be useful if they bowl well and the spinners play a part...

To be honest I dont understand why anyone would be thinking of bestowing greatness on this SA team. They are not very good. They had a purple patch and people (well some) were suggesting Duminy, Amla, De Villiers et al were great players. They were good players in form. There is a major...

    Harris vs. Hauritz vs. Swann

Panesar made his reputation bowling to Pakistan and WIs. They simply are not good players of spin and this should be born in mind when looking at Hauritz's performances.

    Harris vs. Hauritz vs. Swann

Bearing in mind the spin stocks in Aus are of lower quality than my local Primary School thats a pretty epic dis. Hauritz has actually being bowling ok but is flattered by bowling to 2 of the worst Countries for players of spin currently in WIs and Pakistan. Swann hands down and considering he...

    Next Test Nation???

Is there a need to destroy Test cricket then? There can be no other reason for Test expansion.
