What would be your England ODI XI ?

I can't believe Bopara wouldn't feature in your side and Blackwell is included despite his not so good past form. A batting average of not quite 15 over a fair amount of games indicates to me, he just isn't good enough.

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

You could easily do that, however by 10 games do you just mean the teams in each division play eachother home and away each season? That would defeat the object of scrapping leagues. The idea is to have all of the teams playing eachother either with 17 games a season, or playing every other...

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

Sure each county could only play 12 games to make each game mean more, and as they do in the NFL alternate who plays who each season. Games like Lancashire v Yorkshire would be less frequent, but they'd damn well be worth the wait!

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

I know in the NFL they have 32 teams split into two leagues, and four regions. So you have NFC and AFC which are each split into North, East, South and West. Each team only plays 16 games per season, prior to the play-offs which are one off games. Teams from the AFC do play teams from the NFC...

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

Best of 7 or something? When in Florida recently I saw that SA Spurs won the series something like 4-0.

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

The NBA is something I do not take an interest in. Anyone know?

What would be your England ODI XI ?

I'm not against Cook opening at all. He's a very good player, and I have witnessed many fine innings at Essex. Maybe I've been listening to the SKY Sports panel too much, and so have dismissed him. They seem to be very much against him playing ODI's for England. If he was just allowed to bat...

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

OK should domestic cricket be extended to five days of play rather than four in an attempt to simulate test cricket, and hopefully get more results?

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

Would any one be against limiting the number of overs a side can bat in the longer format of the game? Say give each side 180 overs for the 4 day form of the game, and they can bat whatever they like in each innings as long as they do not go over a combined 180 overs, or is that messing too much...

What would be your England ODI XI ?

Could Flintoff open the batting and attempt to make use of the fielding restrictions?

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

Seriously guys, for any of you who are not sure about how the NFL and MLB seasons work, please investigate each on wikipedia, or the league websites. One thing I can say for the Yanks is that they definitely know how to make their sports competitive.

Could English cricket take a leaf out of MLB/NFL's book?

Personally I do not like the league format used in English cricket. Much like US sports, most teams from year to year seem able to challenge for honours. Sometimes teams in Division two are capable of defeating a lot of teams in Division one which makes the league system pointless in my opinion...

[My Article] The State of England Bowling

I am sometimes amazed at how off the boil some of the English bowlers can look, and it really frustrates me. I think Gough said recently that England's bowlers are pretty much bowling like robots, that they have been taught to bowl a certain way and fail to adapt to conditions. In the nets they...

What would be your England ODI XI ?

I hardly ever agree with the England ODI side which is picked. If everyone was fit who would you play, 1-11 ? I would go: Trescothick Prior Bopara Pietersen Collingwood Shah Flintoff Mascerenhas S Jones Plunkett Panesar. I feel this side would be attacking at the top of the order, with...

    ***Official** West Indies in England***

I believe Bopara is the better player. Not only that but I can see he could be a special player in the future. There is something about Bopara, something that world class sportsmen possess. Shah for me is someone who might play the occasional excellent innings, but just massively reminds me of...

    ***Official** West Indies in England***

To be honest the squad doesn't look too bad to me. I'm disappointed that Nixon hasn't been given the chance to continue his excellent performances in the World Cup in the Test Match format. It looks as though he will never get the chance. I'm also baffled as to why Shah has been included ahead...

England's ODI lineup after World Cup

Vaughan Trescothick Pietersen Strauss Bopara Collingwood Flintoff Nixon S Jones Anderson Panesar Cook, Foster, Bell, Broad, Dalrymple, Key knocking on the door. I like the sound of Mascheranas too,

    How good is Simon Jones

I rate S Jones very highly. When he first came in to the side I had my doubts, but he went away worked on things came back and was very accurate at pace. I can remember during the triumphant Ashes, Benaud never stopped praising him. I am always excited when he has the ball in his hand. If he...

Who should be dropped in the English side?

I'd actually drop Bell, have Vaughan and Tresco opening, Pietersen at 3, Strauss 4, Bopara 5, Collingwood 6, Flintoff 7, Nixon 8, S Jones 9, Anderson 10, Panesar 11 I'd love to see Hoggard or Harmison come back and take over from Anderson though. Cook and Foster would definitely be knocking on...

England's pace attack for First Test

and both Tudor and Silverwood can score a few runs at times. To be honest though I don't see many quality options. I definitely think Plunkett is the most overrated bowler I've seen for years. Yes he gets wickets, but damn does he go for plenty of runs. Not International class at all. What...
