The case of the missing black Test cricketer

Your initial comment was inflammatory because you are going to great pain's to state the obvious and so inviting ridicule. To many Saffa's, its patronizing because it breed's assumption's that we don't have the capacity to think and understand the nature of our dilemma? Maybe that's not what you...

The case of the missing black Test cricketer

It was an ignorant question to start off with. It required a 'pretty long winded reply' to enlighten. Because its called Cricket South Africa. It is subservient to the will of the South African people. Our tax money subsidizes the team. Don't like it...? Take the flag off the shirt, and...

Were bodyline tactics actually that negative?

    A very astute point!

India, Australia, England attempt to take control of Cricket

Yes. Agreed. But if I change my words: But by the same definition, we should not be arguing about implementing entertainment orientated features in test cricket simply for the reason that it the players themselves insist that negatively affects the competitive contest between 2 teams. Both...

India, Australia, England attempt to take control of Cricket

As noted in my previous posts (and under my false impressions), if one were to consider Test Cricket as a contest in which the following definition applies: "activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another", then the act of an outside person...

India, Australia, England attempt to take control of Cricket

Wikipedia's definition of sport: I've just had my world rocked! I'm under the impression that Test Cricket is a contest between 2 teams which encompasses a complete inspection of individual and team playing ability, as well as endurance, and that any entertainment value, is a co-incidental by...

India, Australia, England attempt to take control of Cricket

Then what's the bloody point of competing? Why don't the ICC just create a new rule that says Chris Gayle get's three chances to bat in a T20 game so that he can entertain a mob?

India, Australia, England attempt to take control of Cricket

Then maybe that's the problem in this thread. The traditionalist's want to play sport (Test cricket) in it's purist state and the other half want's to be entertained.

India, Australia, England attempt to take control of Cricket

That is a totally incorrect assertion! Sport is about athletes competing against each other to determine dominance. Money and fans are secondary to this primary goal.

India, Australia, England attempt to take control of Cricket

@Muloghonto Totally agree with many of your posts. I just have to look at the history of Kerry Packer Cricket to understand that the idea's that you are putting forward are not outlandish and that there is precedent for many of your idea's.

The case of the missing black Test cricketer

The American civil war concluded in 1865 and to this day, America is still grappling with issues of racism and inequality. If America couldn't resolve this problem in 149 years, what makes you think that we can resolve it in 20 years?

What matches are you planning on going to this Year?

SA vs Aus at Newlands Sat Mar 1 - Wed Mar 5. I'll be there on Saturday + Sunday although I would like to attend day 3 on the Monday as well because as everyone should knw, all the drama happens on days 2 + 3. Unfortunately, I can't get off work for the the other 3 days and any attempt to play...

Were bodyline tactics actually that negative?

As someone else mentioned, the crux of my comment lies in the following line: There is indeed double standards being practiced as well as a measure of hypocrisy by the Aussies. You can't have your cake and eat it. Either, you say to Jardine, "Fair dinkum mate! Well played!" or we all condemn...

Were bodyline tactics actually that negative?

Yes, it was similar but also dissimilar because of the context, politics and history of the Eng-WI series. It was a contest between the colonial masters vs a resurgent WI teams that had come to prove a point. There was alot of emotion in the contest from the Windies side and Greig's comment...

Were bodyline tactics actually that negative?

If you look at your words from another perspective... which was exactly what MJ was trying to do when Michael Clarke was quoted as saying:

Most classical and perfect batsmen i have ver seen

Most classical and perfect batsmen = Jacques Kallis = walking cricket manual! Want to teach someone how to bat perfectly and classically...? Have them watch a JK hundred...that's if they can stay awake long enough :p. And yes...I am being serious.

Were bodyline tactics actually that negative?

I was looking for a concept or word to encompass actions such as racism, extreme prejudice, ***ual orientation prejudice, etc and "human decency" was the best I could come up with :(. Point is, there are certain lines that can never be crossed and that must be respected.

Were bodyline tactics actually that negative?

While the Bodyline tactics might have been developed as a tactic to contain, the results thereof changed cricket for the better because it reasserted the fact that cricket is a sporting contest between 2 teams and that nothing was more important than winning (within the confines of the rules). I...

    Thami Tsolekile put into perspective

Replace Faf...are you on drugs? If it does come down to it, we will pick our best six batters based on batter ability. Elgar/JP/Stiaan must then compete for the 6 batter position. The fact that Elgar and JP are successful part time bowlers for their franchises is neither here nor there. They...

Third Name Listed for ATG XI

I can't claim credit for the idea. It's an opinion that I have seen in many CW threads from various posters.
