Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

No, my logic is not wrong at all. It is just not perfect. You can either analyse all the 67 innings he was not out and project his scores or use my logic. Choose which is better.

Bevan was the best Australian batsman until Gilchrist and Ponting came along.

You just sound like a salty Bevan/ Australian fan. I have watched him play live more than you think.

Oops, I am unable to edit the OP. So I am going to post it here. Sachin De villiers Kohli Lara Ponting Anwar Gilchrist Sehwag Dhoni Bevan Honorable mentions: Jayasuriya, De Silva, Azharuddin, Amla and R Sharma

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

No, I am not going to take that innings into account. Because we are not discussing what Bevan might do after he gets to 42. We are discussing what Bevan might do after he gets to 42 and is given a chance to bat till he gets out. You are missing the second condition. That 105 not out is...

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

That is based off my reasoning. If you have the resources to do that analysis, you can. In Bevan's case it's quite simple. I am dividing his career into 3 parts. The innings with not outs (where he averaged 42), the innings where he got out before 42 and the innings he got out after scoring 42...

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

If a batsman is on 42 not out and another is on zero not out, I would expect the one with zero not out to score more runs. If you do a statistical analysis considering all the top batsmen that is result you will get.

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

And on what logic you are taking matches he got out on Zero? You are trying to deviate from a logical discussion by being sarcastic since your logic failed.

They stand out but still their average is boosted making them look better than they actually are when you compare them with top order batsmen.

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

That logic is flawed. Because we are discussing what Bevan would have averaged if he continued till he got out in all the innings. That 110 is agian inflated by too many not outs. In the matches he got out after reaching 42 he averaged 62. So it is 20 more runs and not 55 more. That makes a...

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

"Most phenomena are not memoryless" it says. I would rather keep this within the realm of cricket. In most cases a lower order batsman remains not out either because he has faced far less balls than the top order batsmen or he is too good in those days to be dismissed early. In the former...

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

Take any practical case and you will know. In case of Bevan you would have to assume 55 more runs every time he remained not out. Out of all the innings Bevan was dismissed he averaged 32. And out of all the innings he remained not out his runs/ innings is 42. So you are saying he would have...

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

Nah, Dilshan was a solid batsman. But there was no point in time where you could call him a top 5 in the world. Sehwas was a top 5 in the 2000s, Anwar in the early to mid 90s and Jayasuriya in the mid 90s.
  14. V

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

That makes no sense. If we have batsman 'A' who scored 10,000 runs in 200 innings with 0 not outs and batsman 'B' who scored 8,000 runs in 200 innings with 40 not outs, they both have the same batting average but A is clearly better than B. If you say that B is better because he was...

Yes, I agree Gilchrist is the closest thing to Sehwag. But when people don't hesitate to give credit for Gilchrist why not for Sehwag.

Are you calling yourself a fool?
  17. V

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

An average boosted by a lot of not outs is indicative of a player not being as good as another player with the same average not boosted by not outs. This is simple reasoning. Just going by the average would mean Bevan would have scored 55 more runs every time he ended up as not out had the...

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

But it does boost the average. If you go by the average you will be led to conclude that Bevan is better than Sachin. Not saying that the ability to stay not out on numerous occasions isn't commendable.

You can't talk about madness after placing Hayden over Anwar.

Top 10 ODI batsmen since the 90s

Well, after calling me out on my controversial opinion and saying I am incredibly bad at judging cricketing skills, you go on to prove how incredibly bad you are. De Silva over Sachin in the 90s? I mean, how could you place anyone over Sachin in that period. If you are any good at judging you...
