Better 153 : Perera or Lara

True that. I believe he bowled unchanged for much of that chase.

Better 153 : Perera or Lara

Wi were once 105/5. Let's not pretend like Lara had a cake walk either.

Better 153 : Perera or Lara

All above is true but Waugh and Ponting are a class apart from anyone that played in that south africa test. Still Perreras knock was otherworldly. No questions asked.

Better 153 : Perera or Lara

Ok.fine less than stellar. Lol lol. How he survived that Yorker from Gillespie I would never know....

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

You are aware that Viv himself was injured and even missed the subsequent NZ series as a result. I equate that attack to the Steyn attack Sachin made runs against in South Africa in the 2000s.

Better 153 : Perera or Lara

Lara. Tough conditions vs an atg great and mixed attack (great pace and spin) on a Kensington wicket with spineless batsmen as support. Perrera close behind.

Better 153 : Perera or Lara

Don't forget that his first test half century likely would have been another 100 had he not wrongfully been given out. Healey did not have the ball in hand during that run out.

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

So we agree technical flaws or whatever doesn't equate to output. Thanks. Because one of the most awkward player I've seen vs pace was Steve Waugh and he was head and shoulders above both Lara and Sachin vs great pace.

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

Was it really necessary to post that clip vs Malcolm? While you're at it why don't you post Lara's actual output vs said bowler ie 400 runs in 3 innings at 100. We all already said Lara is uncomfortable vs pace but output is what matters. And his output vs pace wasn't any more or much less than...

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

Yeah, Lara's 213 was most definitely not on a flat track. Sabina park is anything but that.

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

Disagree with most of your argument. Monster series is not just about run out put. It's about dominating and averaging in the 70+ range over the course of a series vs a challenging attack (greater the attack the better). For instance, Viv scored almost 400 runs in 4 innings vs a challenging...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

His average would be around Hadlee’s with a better SR. End of story.

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

Because MM would also have more shots at the tail. Below are Marshalls stats in tests not involving Holding or Garner up til the end of the 1980s...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

I really don't see why people are so hung up on this longevity stuff. Someone already pointed out that 70 odd tests and 300 or so wickets is more than enough to evaluate a pace bowler. Is anyone really picking Walsh over Holding simply because Walsh played almost 3 times as many tests. I mean...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

The only fast bowler who i can think of who had a lengthy career and was a longish wolf os Hadlee. And he and Sir Richard were of similar quality with different MOs. So i could see him doing similarly to Hadlee, with a worse econ, similar wpm and average but better SR.

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

    Top 6.

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

Add to that, as a spearhead and being part of a strong attack Marshall as I recall, tended to take most of the top order wickets. Without looking i believe only the likes of Amby and McGrath took a higher percentage (maybe Hadlee as well). The tail went to the 'other' bowlers. The fact is...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

Yeah but I already said that. I wrote that he'd likely average under 25 but his wpm would suffer over the 20 tests that would take him to 100 tests (and 36 years). His overall average would still be around 21 sr around 47, wpm above 4.5 and he'd still be sub 25 home and away vs all comers.
  19. Sliferxxxx

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

It suggests Marshall was at the end of his fast bowling career and like anyone at that age was somewhat in decline. I already said in an earlier post, that yes being part of a great attack helps but only really if that bowler is unfit/declining. Peak fully fit Marshall would've been lethal...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

That's ODIs where Malcolm was never anything special. Look at the teams we played and our lineup. And the fact that sir Malcolm was still decent in 4 day cricket. He'd be less effective going forward but only slightly so bowling behind Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop (when available) and...
