500+ Runs in a Test Series on 2+ Occasions

Haha yet again, Ian Healey cost lara those 36 runs in 1992. Claimed a stumping when yet again, he didn't have the ball in his glove. Lara was on 58 and bossing the Aussie attack. Then there was the bump catch in the 4th test with Lara in 52.

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

One thing I also never appreciated until this comparison above, is like Bumrah, Marshall played the majority of his tests on the road. So he played mostly outside his home conditions, didn't play any minnows and still ended up with top of the tree stats, and reputation: amazing !!

Better knock : Ian Botham 149* or VVS Laxman 281

Vvs. Without his innings, Australia would've probably won 20+ in a row.

Better 153 : Perera or Lara

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

That stuff about wrong decisions I agree with. I remember in the 95 series Lara was destroying McWarne in Barbados and wasn't wrongfully given out to a Waugh catch when he dropped the ball. Ditto the first test run out when on 60 odd in the 99 series when Healey didn't even have the ball in hand.

500+ Runs in a Test Series on 2+ Occasions

Another near miss for me, purely based on the form he was in, was the 2005 home series vs South Africa. Lara scored back to back mammoth 100s and was going into his favorite hunting ground (the ARG) for the last test. He surprisingly failed and on the same wicket that WI piled up 700 runs.

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

Oh so he didn't get out to the Ws but still scored the same as lara (more or less) but got out to lesser bowlers so that makes him better? I see. Can I also therefore conclude that since Donald dismissed lara mostly in one series, that lara dominated him in the other. Ditto Wasim seeing that...

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

I'd really like to see the context. Averaged 27 and 40 at his peak vs Donald. Then 36 in 2000. 30 odd over 3 tests vs Wasim and co in late 90s (2 test series and 1 test Asian championship) all at home. He did do fine vs WI in 97 but as you know, Subz showed me the light earlier this year when...

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

30 +30+30+30= 120(÷4)=30 100+10+5+5= 120(÷4)=30. Yeah I'd probably go with the one who tonned up more. But I'd still concede that that person who tonned up wasnt particularly better than the other guy. One reason most favor Sachin over Lara (myself included) was that he was more consistent. So...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

I've never seen any poster say Marshall is the undisputed best (maybe kyear excepted). If you can show me otherwise, I'm all ears ...Even I've never said that and I'm as biased as they come.

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

If Sachin scored tons but still ended up averaging less vs Donald and similarly vs the Wws that just shows to me that lara was more consistent. Lara sucked when he toured in 1997 but did just fine at home to the Wws in 1993 and Waqar was at his peak. He also averaged 40 odd vs Donald in 2001...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

Kyear is one person. If you have issues with his take that's fine. But no need to make up stuff that doesn't exist. Most of us, don't think there's any gap between MM and the other top 6 or so (and especially Richard, Glenn and even Dale).

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

They're going to say context and other bs. In back to back series vs Donald, the same Donald whom Lara averaged 31 against, Sachin did the exact same thing: 27 at home and 40 away. And later in 2000, another 36 at home. And on each side of those mediocre performances, Sachin did fine vs...

    Steven Smith vs Dale Steyn

And Tendulkar,.even supposedly looking more assured didn't do much better. For goodness sake, prime Tendulkar averaged 27 and 40 (overall 30 odd vs Donald) in back to back series. I wish lara would've faced Donald at any point at home in his prime (90s).

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

I've seen his posts. His take on Marshall isn't unreasonable. He considers MM the best but I believe he concedes that Sir Richard and especially McGrath are right up there with him. I also take it that even he doesn't feel like there's any discernible gap. And even then, that's just one...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

No one and I mean no one including myself thinks there is any gap between Malcolm and about a half dozen or so bowlers: McGrath, Hadlee, Steyn, Ambrose, Imran, Akram. And what stat gap are you even talking about? Steyn, Waqar and Rabada have better sr. Hadlee, Steyn and Lillee have better...

Better 153 : Perera or Lara

We agree to disagree but what you're saying is reasonable. 👍🏾

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

😭😭😭😭. Came out to bat with his hand in a cast. Then turned around and took 5 wickets when he was told to sit out for ten days just to help the team. And Subz who thinks he knows more about WI cricket than I do wants to attribute Malcolm's greatness to just being a part of great attacks. Bull. He...

Better 153 : Perera or Lara

Umm there was one high score, a low score and two moderate totals. Hardly a high scoring test.
