    *Official* Australia in India 2023

I'm going off what he said after the SCG Test where he said he doesn't know if he'll be back next Australian summer and that he plans on playing the twilight of his career in the BBL.

    *Official* Australia in India 2023

There is no real reason for Smith to keep playing Test cricket. He has already achieved all you can as a batsman. He'll play his hundredth Test in the Ashes. That's the last real milestone for him to tick off. The money is in Twenty20 cricket. Why play a longer, harder form of the game when you...

    *Official* Australia in India 2023

I think Mark Waugh is on the money. I think the Ashes this year will be the last of Steve Smith in Test cricket. Especially if Australia win.

Which aspects of test cricket have regressed in the current era?

I think there are ebbs are flows from generation to generation. Some generations will have higher quantity of quality players then others. I don't think the median/average standard remains linear no matter what. There is also the influence of money in Twenty20 leagues which wasn't around 20...

Which aspects of test cricket have regressed in the current era?

The thread was asking about the regression in the last 20 years. Not the last 100 or the last 50. My assertion was that the batting lineups of those teams I listed don't have the same number of quality of batsmen that they used to have. Hence a decline in the period of time listed. The drop off...

Which aspects of test cricket have regressed in the current era?

England don't have as many quality batsmen as they had 10-15 years ago. England had 7 batsmen averaging 40+ over an extended period back then. They currently have 1. Whether you like it or not that is an example of a decline in the quantity of quality batsmen. The only batsmen in England's...

Which aspects of test cricket have regressed in the current era?

No. I said the quantity of quality batsmen in several countries aren't as good as they were 10-15 years. A quality batsmen would be someone who averages over 40 in Test Cricket over a sustained period. Only Joe Root and Harry Brook average over 40 in their careers. Brook has played 6 Tests. You...

Which aspects of test cricket have regressed in the current era?

Test batting has waned overall. Nations like South Africa, England, Pakistan & Sri Lanka just don't have the same quantity of quality of Test batsmen that they had 10-15 years ago. New Zealand is the outlier and has actually gotten better in this regard.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I don't really think you can constitute combining South Africa and the West Indies into one team considering South Africa refused to compete against the West Indies until the rebel series in the 1980s.

Which pacers have the most and least efficient actions?

I tried to copy his action once. I released the ball too early and the ball went flying over the nets and into the parking lot and narrowly missed the windshield of someone's car.
