    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Those guys could definitely push the scoring when they wanted to. In this case they were trying to save the game after conceding a big first innings lead, and succeeded.

It's up to 5.09rpo after this morning, so yeah not even that.

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

According to the 1957 scorecard, the England record partnership of 411 between Cowdrey and May took 500 minutes, which is roughly double the length of this one (256 minutes aws). They didn't record balls faced at the time but I suspect the discrepancy would be quite a bit bigger.

Never been done. The highest second-high score in a team innings is Sangakkara's 287 against South Africa, in the same innings that Jayawardene hit 374. Note: Please keep posting record batting queries in this thread, I'm an absolute pig in muck here.

Highest scores for 3 down in Test history (this has now made the top 10)

Fowler and Getting in Chennai 1984. A knock also involving battling the effects of an Asian summer. '“I remember the last over of the day, Gatt’s on strike and I think Ravi Shastri had bowled his first ball. Gatt said: ‘You’ve done enough for today, get back your end.’ So I just stood still and...

Record watch: Root's career high score is 254, also against Pakistan, in 2016. From the infamous 'why haven't they enforced the follow on' whingeathon where England won by miles after not enforcing the follow on. The England record partnership is 411, to be especially cheeky.

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

England's attack is very mid and really lacks Test match acclaim. The first day was about what I expected when we lost the toss and I doubt they'll do much matchwinning as the winter goes on. But I agree you can give them good credit for sticking to task and keeping up the job on a dead surface...

These are the #1 and #2 partnerships under Stokes-McCullum. This one was scored at a run rate of 4.84, which of the six 200+ stands of the era is the slowest.

Smith being pretty agreed on to be the most value in Tests goes to show that while records are fun, consistency is the real currency.

Naseem got umpire's called against Root yesterday and has him dropped today. He's owed a cup of tea

Who will score the next triple hundred in Test Cricket in the 2020's ?

Pope has the two highest scores for 'this' England team, with 205 vs Ireland and his 196 in India. The last doubles before that were Root's two in Sri Lanka and India at the start of 2021, Crawley's day out in the lockdown tests against Pakistan, and before that Root again in NZ in 2019.

Unless the scoring rate goes bananas, or they've run out of bastsmen and are trying to squeeze a few extra runs out of Shoiab Bashir or something, I don't think there's much value in declaring before tea. There's no point in leaving runs to the 4th innings to score, because it's always going to...

I'm eyeing that first Pakistan-Bangladesh test six weeks ago and thinking yup I'll take one of those. Bangladesh ended day 3 with five first innings wickets in hand and 124 behind.

Most 150+ scores Root's average under the circumstances a seemingly rare 300+, which if not for Steve Waugh's knack for red ink would be the highest amongst those with similar weight of runs

Who will score the next triple hundred in Test Cricket in the 2020's ?

Jaiswal seems a pretty good answer. Attacking openers for strong teams are bound to have the most opportunity. He'd have a better shot if India could tour Pakistan though, on current evidence. England have attacking openers, but approach doesn't lend itself to big individual scores very well...

They're all so cooked. Pretty much any county cricketer should be booking flights to NZ and just follow the team bus

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

It'll be a rarity if it stays that way. One prior instance of 1 maiden in 70+ overs and one instance of a completely maidenless such team effort, which turned out to be in the infamous 'catch the boat home' test of 1939. That said I expect quite a few innings would have one or no maidens at...
