    Victor Trumper vs Wilfred Rhodes

That there have been 17 books/booklets devoted to Trumper published in the last ten years and just one on Rhodes says it all for me - that said at least the one on Rhodes is a definitive biography, and we still haven't had one of those on Vic, though I believe that one may be being worked on

    Mundane sightings of high-profile cricketers

Certainly not - it was the 1970s!

    Mundane sightings of high-profile cricketers

It must be ten years since I told the story of taking a leak next to Ian Chappell in a pub in Lancashire ...................

    English Domestic Season 2024

Even if they don't recruit Lancs should be good enough to get out of Division 2, but I get the impression there's a general malaise in the dressing room which they have to resolve before that will happen

The decline of the part-time medium pacer

Fair comment on Mud, but a bit hard on Asif - he was a proper bowler in his youth, and only started bowling those military medium wobblers when his dodgy back ended his days as a quick - but then what a wonderful batsman he became - a very special talent :)

19 Years ago OTD - 2005 Ashes Win

I was on my honeymoon - I'd quite forgotten that that marriage had some good bits ....

Countries you wish were really good at/really cared about cricket

Argentina had a decent team after the Great War for a few seasons, mainly thanks to Clem Gibson and various members of the Ayling family, but they were some distance from Test status

middle age brings behavioural changes Daemon - your turn will come

Who are the mods these days?

    Thoughts on Geoffrey Boycott?

So she claimed, but was later demonstrated to be a thoroughly dishonest woman

    Softest cricketer (smallest heart)

Bradman in many ways must have been the strongest of all cricketers mentally, but he could certainly whinge with the best of them - bodyline, poor wickets, folk who didn't agree with him being the best examples

    Best Cordons

Not suggesting he was the best ever, but for a man who certainly never looked very much like an elite sportsman, Colin Cowdrey was a superb fielder at slip, likewise Phil Sharpe

    Les Ames vs Godfrey Evans

Ames, being neat and unobtrusive in the way he went about his work, inevitably suffers in comparison with the great showman, but itbt I don't think there was anything to choose between them as 'keepers - Ames clearly a better bat

Do tailend runs affect your cricketer rating?

I can manage a decent flapjack, but my sponges tend to be a deflating experience - perfectly edible though

Do tailend runs affect your cricketer rating?

I like cake, especially if it has decent icing

    Some impressive cricketing feats pre-1960

I suppose it wasn't entirely within his control, but I find it difficult to look beyond Jim Laker's 19-90 for the most impressive cricketing feat of all

    Cricket books

"What a Tour!" is probably the hardest to find, and one you rarely see - £46 is well over the top for the England one, or indeed any of the others - £20-£25 nearer the mark imo

    Cricket books

Some of them are quite tricky to find, but over the years I've managed to acquire them all - they are certainly interesting, although the production standards are underwhelming, but then perhaps that adds to their charm?
