DoG's Top 100 Test Batsmen Countdown Thread

The way Sanga seemed to just keep getting better was so gun. Will never forgot in his final year of international cricket, that double century in New Zealand against world class swing bowlers, and the four consecutive ODI centuries in the World Cup. Neither the opposition/conditions in NZ, or...

    Question on ban announcements

New decade = a new reign of terror commencing. I'd be wary taking cheap shots if I were you.

Mrpiggy has been banned for a week for trolling and wishing a stroke on someone (please don't do that).

Remember you've still got to put the bad ball away even when you're playing for a draw kids.

Come on Henry. My CPL team depends on this.

General team of the 2010s thread

Personally I'm not someone who cares about when a player retires. Whether or not they want to play/make themselves available is entirely a personal choice and I won't get angry at a player for their decision on such a matter. But if people do decide that retiring can be a selfish act, then...

I mean he surely would've kept adding value to the Australian side for a lot longer? He averaged 72 in his last series, even with the last innings duck. Maybe he retired at the right time for his legacy.

His new contract was such an obviously stupid idea. Was already on huge wages from his initial deal, and got a big time extension on the back of a few decent months. Think he's now on Aubameyang kind of money. Was cracking up at the time when Henry Winter was tweeting about how deserved it was.

    4 Day Tests

The whole I won't consider them tests anymore! is stupid for the reasons Spikey mentioned. But I just don't see much appeal in removing the 5th day. The arguments that I can think of would be 1) If you know for sure it's only going to be four days, you can squeeze in back to back tests more...

General team of the 2010s thread

Only partially relevant to the theme of the thread, but was just going through some numbers and I must say I didn't realise quite how insane de Villiers' decade was. Test average of 57.48, only bettered by Smith and Sanga of those with over 3.5k runs. Averaged 59 against Australia and 54 in...

Hah, nice you think that about Hleb. I think the whole Wenger 05-11 period was ahead of it's time in the way they played. Had very technical players but still played pretty direct by today's standards. The trouble is it was socially acceptable to kick those sort of teams a lot more then. Still...

Trouble with getting the new manager bounce at Christmas with a depleted squad is the legs just go. You saw what happened once we opened up again after the equaliser. We actually soaked pressure up surprisingly well though before the Leno howler. Much better than 90% of Emery games in that regard.

I think Woakes or Bresnan should be the English third seamer based on volume of work. Finn did play an underrated role in the win in Kolkata in 2012 though. He's not a disastrous selection here. Funny that despite not being able to bat for the second half of the decade, the batting spots are...

Yeah I don't see an argument against it. You're not denying a clear and obvious goal scoring opportunity if the side get a free shot that is scored three quarters of the time.

Yeah surely it started with the 17/18 Ashes where Cummins, Starc and Haze played every test. Then the first time Patto got on the park with two of them England got rolled for 67 (we'll forget the second innings).

Yeah I'm always surprised when elite athletes are like this. How can you be such an effective bowler without being analytical and knowing how you usually get your wickets, where batsmen score runs off you etc.
