i think theytargeted him being weaker in the off stump corridor. A decent tactic for him. He had been given couple of easy pull strokes before then

***Official*** England vs Sri Lanka 21st August-10th September 2024

Hugely mediocre so far from Sri Lanka this morning. I felt they preyed well on the weaknesses of England players yesterday. Asitha’s bowling to Duckett and Pope being a good example. But these first few overs have allowed some rather easy runs. I am often critical of careless dismissals, but I...

The overall strategy appears to be not get too much tap. However, it has allowed England to accumulate. That said, Jayasuriya is now on from the right end. Let’s see how he goes.

I don’t get that he is bowling from the end that will drift the ball away from the right handers. It is not really giving him a chance.

    Ben Stokes vs Ian Bell

It is forgotten that Vaughan was a really good batsman before his knees gave way. I guess the fact that England got pumped in 2002/3 undermined how good he was against that attack.

    The Hundred could be scrapped

There's a case for that. I find it hard to begrudge, as I have said before, players from non "big 3" countries from filling their boots financially if they are going to receive a relative pittance for playing international cricket. That said, it doesn't make me want to watch any more of the...

Sri Lanka need to put runs on the board for it to be an issue and I'm not backing them to really be challenging enough here. Lawrence is an unknown quantity at opener for sure, but Crawley is a bit too hit and miss for me. It is great when he comes off, but he can go missing. I do back the rest...

Surely he is in contention with Burger? Don't know so much about Coetzee.

I hardly call it a 'makeshift' side. There are only 2 real absences. Sure missing Stokes affects the balance, but there should still be 6 proper batters in there. Potentially a bit more of a tail with Atkinson, Bashir and presumably Wood though.

Can't think you have much reason to set your alarm clock for a weird time to watch anything else in different parts of the world.

    The Hundred could be scrapped

I did watch some of the game last night and was pleased to see Saqib Mahmood play again after a horrific couple of years. Good luck to the fella. I hope he gets his career back on track. This is definitely just my own personal opinion, but I find all franchise cricket much of a muchness. I can...

*Official* South Africa Tour of the West Indies, AUGUST 6th to 26th, 2024-- 2 TESTS & 3 T20Is

I was thinking of him more for his bowling. I see Holder as a bit of a spare part these days. Surely those who coin it in at least 3 tournaments especially if at least one of those are IPL or BBL must have enough dough to consider a bit of time playing international cricket. I take the point...

    Gooch vs Boycott vs Cook

Neither would Cook but I take your point that Gooch is probably the most adaptable of the 3 and the most complete player although IMO Boycott was better actual player at his best.

It's more true to say that he's been closer to international quality since the start of the McCullum era, but an average of circa 35 is hardly "impressive", it is more that he has a reasonably regular impact, rather than a whole host of bungalows surrounding a skyscraper so to speak.

The much discussed Ian Bell has been appointed batting coach for Sri Lanka's tour of England.

    Ben Stokes vs Ian Bell

Was that Hamilton in 2008, or something like that? It was a very typical example of Bell managing to get some fairly worthless runs, I've seen it been called downhill skiing on here, during that period. He did that for fun in his early years in test cricket.

Yeah, their batting looks better but I'd be doubtful that their bowling will stand up much over here.
