I am but recently haven't been able to delve much time. Have an inherent love for Action/Fantasy genre and know there are many gems there, but really haven't read much outside of LoTR. Interested if you some recommendations.

From the stuff that I have read and liked in no particular order:

Second Apocalypse - R Scott Bakker (favorite but not a light read.)

Shogun (historical fiction with political intrigue about Japan)

First Law series

Harry Potter

Dune (mixed feeling)

Children of Time

And dozens of Chinese wuxia/ web novels.

First Law would be my main recommendation for someone who is trying to get into fantasy but wants more mature content. And Shogun is amazing and would be my first recommendation for historical fic. Both are light reads, fun and pretty intriguing.

What manga/ anime are you following currently other than the ones we discussed in that thread? Any new exciting stuff??

And One Piece is dragging so much! I am kinda pissed at the recent pacing.

I probably am too excited for finally getting some Void Century lore and too used to to the pacing at points, that I didn't felt it to be a drag really..... I shake when every chapter containing VC lore drops, though the recent few chapters have really slowed down a bit.

In Anime, I would recommend you Mob Psycho 100 the most highly. I really have trouble in finding much criticism for it, especially for Seasons 2 and 3. The ending just felt so right, only second to Code Geass ending for me. Fate/Zero is another I can't recommend enough. I am not really into Fate much, but Unlimited Blade's work and especially Zero are really strong.

I just recently finished Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and really think it deserves the hype. And finally, Parasyte: The Maxim is a personal favorite of me, though many seems to not like it much. I find the exploration of humanity really poignant. Oh, and I remember you talking about liking weird stuff, so try Space Dandy.

In Manga, Message To Adolf is the Gold standard of historical fiction in manga for me. Though it's probably not for everyone, I really love it. 20th Century Boys, a Naoki Urasawa thriller, is better than Monster for me, just love that thing. Akira the manga is much different from the movies, you should really give it a try if you love the movie.

And two relatively underground works I really enjoyed, Real and especially Holyland. And if you love Zombie stories, then I definitely think you should try I am Hero.

Also, on Harry Potter, are the books much better than movies? As I have really enjoyed the movies as a kid, but later on found too many plot holes and it kinda got sour for me.

Thanks. I already tried Guren Lagan, Mob Psycho and Fate/Zero. Honestly, I didn’t care for the first two as I found them too ridiculous (Mob is mainly comedy which isn’t something I focus on). I enjoyed Fate/Zero.

Harry Potter books are better than movies, but if you already know the story then there’s not much of a point really. It’s one of those things where like if you call yourself a fantasy fan, then how could you not have read HP and Dune ?? You feel me? They are just considered too popular to completely skip IMO (especially Dune).

OP is definitely dragging for me. Wano was 40% longer than it needed to be. And last 4 chapters in current arc could have been condensed into 2. For a moment, I believed Oda when he said the story will end in two years in 2023. The way things are moving, it’s not gonna end for next 10 years!

I get that for TTGL, though I still loved it despite all the over the topness. But like, I don't feel Mob Psycho was too over the top really.....

Have you finished all the 3 seasons as I don't think saying it's a comedy does it justice. The season 1 was just good for me, but 2 and 3 are perfection. It seemed much more a coming of age story to me, and his powers being kinda of a metaphor for your true self. If anything, I would say the comedy was just decent.

Loved how every single character was written, from Reigen (Especially him) to Teru, Dimple, Ritsu. Even characters which seemed one dimensional like Tsubomi turns out to be much more and at the beginning I even thought of Mob as kinda generic; but oh boy!! His character got explored brilliantly in the latter two seasons.

Thanks. I just saw first two-three episodes of first season and then gave up. I know it’s consistently recommended as one of the best anime ever on pretty much every anime discussion that I have read.

Personal taste and all. I also tried Jojo after seeing recommendation on anime thread. But gave up half-way through the second season.

I have heard great things about Frieren. Looking forward to trying it. Also, want to get into Kingdom manga once I am caught up with Berserk.
