Great read, thanks for posting.
Yeah, I found it particularly interesting how Aitkin, with his background in psychology, maybe almost tried too hard and tinkered with his approach too much. In contrast with Nathan Astle who he says brushed off all the technical advice they got and said he was sticking to his own game. The bit about batting with Crowe and feeling that maybe he was just getting cues earlier than he was is interesting. I remember reading that Crowe did the best on some vision tests the team took in the mid-90's.

Also, that is hilarious about Pat Symcox telling Allan Donald that Aitken thought he wasn't that fast.

Was a good link by the author of Aitken's mentally torturous approach to Mark Richardson's. Youth teammates, one who managed to make it work (albeit belatedly, and in a completely new role) and the other didn't.

It was actually a bit disappointing aitken hadn't read his book or had any insights . Funny they both ended up in reality TV.

This probably kills whatever faint hope there might have been for Auckland to have a specialty rectangular stadium and separate cricket venue.

I'm not surprised. It's the terrible, "path of least change" option. My ideal would've been for the waterfront stadium & to remodel Eden Park as a 20-25k cricket ground, but hey.

I just watched a podcast with Jarrod Kimber where he ended up talking for a bit about how NZ gets screwed in terms of hosting ICC events. Highlight quotes:

"For instance, the team who has been f***ed over the most, without any doubt at all, is New Zealand. How many men's tournaments has New Zealand hosted on their own..."
"When..New Zealand doesn't have enough big stadiums to host major events...you been to the West Indies, buddy?...New Zealand's been trying to host a World Cup since 1992, not just a WC, a T20 [World Cup], Champions Trophy. It's actually a really great place to have a tournament..New Zealand as a country really get behind it, it's also easier to travel around; Australia's hard to travel around, India's hard to travel around, the West Indies is an absolute nightmare...Remember, there are nations, major nations, who have been involved for nearly 100 years at the international level, who have not been given this"

Absolutely. It's bothered me for decades that we're always a minority co-host in the shadows of Australia, when the likes of WI, SL and Bangladesh have all been able to host tournaments themselves.

I guess it's to do with time zones for TV coverage.

That's probably the sole reason isn't it and the time-zone difference to India in particular.

Wagner still playing county. Guess he has to want a little crack at 1000 FC wickets.

Fitting that he's playing as ND's spinner in his last game.
