*Official* Big Bash League 14 - 2024/25

The BennyBash League strikes again. I only watched a 9-minute highlight package but I saw the following:

Future T1 over franchise marquee player F.Allen extend his BBL campaign to 7 balls faced, three outs (and could have been out on the 1st two balls he faced)
A player get run out with his bat stuck in the non-existent block
A player hit the roof (honestly, it looked like they were playing in a ready lawn growing facility) then scramble to not get run out on a dead ball while the bowler dropped the 'catch' then injured himself
Players running like they've been stripped of hamstrings in a Saw 9 death challenge, because of the **** outfield
Ashton Agar's head
Cooper Connelly's cricinfo profile (he looks like Lauren Jackson)

I'm sure I missed other stuff

I'm afraid Finn is just a walking joke now. And to think @SteveNZ once thought he might be the next big thing.
Check out this quote from me, in late 2021: Finn was educated in the most optimal of environments, so don't worry about him being gormless or unable to adapt himself to the circumstances.

Uhoh.

To be fair, I did say he had the right tools to be a big thing, I can't see any evidence I said he absolutely would be. In my defense, at the time, I wasn't aware he was massively lacking in application and intelligence. I now know these things.

EDIT: Actually around 2021-22 I did talk him up to an outrageous extent. Another to the long list of career predictions I've got horribly wrong on here.

That innings he played against Australia at the T20 world cup just over 2 years ago looks flukier and flukier every day.
He got 137 off 62 balls against Pakistan last summer. I think he'll come right. It's not as though the other openers really fared any better last night on that surface. One Kiwi who is enhancing his reputation so far is Seifert. His innings was crucial last night. Follows an unbeaten 37 off 19 balls in their win over the Hobart Hurricanes.

This gades outfit are growing on me. There 2/3 with a good NRR without mcgurk, brown, Evans or bethel really doing much and zampa not at his best. Youde expect a few of those guys to get their act together as the season goes deeper so good signs. Death bowling is dogwater and the 6/7 look weak unless Sutherland keeps up his form, but I feel pretty confident in them making play-offs.
Personally think the best sign for the Gades is they could still beat the Scorchers after such mind boggling incompetence. When a team tries all it can to lose and fate won't let them, then they're probably in for a good season.

Obviously the players deserve this little bit of time off, but I'm selfishly disappointed there's no Big Bash on TV today or on Christmas Day itself. Feels like a missed opportunity at a time when there's not a whole lot else on that's worth watching.

^ I understand why no game on Christmas day but I too would have thought a game today would have been great. All about us 😆

Note that the NFL have two games on Christmas Day so surprised BBL hasn't followed the money grab sport

The continued refusal to not play on Xmas day has been a massive mistake and, in my opinion, it's a bit dishonest anyway.

people always moan on about how it's a special day and that stuff and so players should get the day off, but they don't. every year since, like the 2nd or 3rd BBL, Perth has a home game on Boxing Day. Which means one lucky team (which I think Brisbane has been more times than anyone) gets
to fly 5 hours to Perth on Xmas day, plus arriving and departing the airport. how the **** is that better for players than just playing a bloody game?

as far as I'm concerned you should be wanting to minimize travel over the xmas period, not giving Perth a home game tradition. Just do a derby on Xmas day (between the Sydney teams) and have one game on Boxing Day, probably between Hobart and a Melbourne team to make it as reasonable as possible.

CA/ACA should be ashamed that ****ing Andrew Bogut knew what to do for the NBL: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/basket...d-the-gift-of-live-sport-20241223-p5l0d6.html
