Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

I do not think so but hey it’s okay

Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

It is ridiculous to say this guy wasn’t good. He scored centuries against the best, meanest and fastest of bowlers and that too as an opener. Sunil Gavaskar’s centuries : 1. 1976 - Andy Roberts & Michael Holding 2. 1976 - Michael Holding 3. 1976 - Richard Hadlee 4. 1978 - Imran Khan 5. 1978 -...

    Then Holding is an idiot.

Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

Gavaskar scored centuries against Jeff Thomson, Sylvester Clarke, Malcolm Marshall, Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Imran Khan, pre-1980s Ian Botham.

Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

That is so silly. Sunny scored 5 centuries against him.

Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

Obviously. But it isn’t like they played much. It was just one test series.

If Sunny is poor against Lillee because of one series, by the same logic Lillee is one of the worst fast bowlers because he took 6 wickets in 3 Tests in Asia.

Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

Sunny played Lillee 3 times. Lara played Donald like 10 times. Sunny scored 5 centuries against Michael Holding.

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Aubrey Faulkner

Ashwin is not good outside India. This isn’t a Dennis Lillee like situation where he was unproven. Ashwin played plenty of tests in SENA and he just was not good enough. The only places outside India he did well was WI & SL, two poor teams.

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Aubrey Faulkner

    Ahead of whom?

Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

After @subshakerz pointed that against Lara, I honestly can’t overlook his weakness against pace.

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Aubrey Faulkner

Normally I don’t rate the pre-war greats that highly. In this case I don’t rate Ashwin highly much outside India

Aubrey Faulkner vs Shaun Pollock (Tests)

    Shaun Pollock.

Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

True. Lara was great against Murali & Warne. But you can’t say Sunny was poor against spin. It’s just that he never faced those two. Sunny scored centuries against Lance Gibbs(his first tour), Derek Underwood(both home and away), Abdul Qadir(home and away). Perhaps his best ever knock was in...

Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar (Away from home)

Lara scored centuries against only two ATG fast bowlers - McGrath and Pollock(post 2003). Sunil Gavaskar scored centuries against Marshall, Holding, Garner, Roberts, Imran, Hadlee, Willis(1970s), Botham(1970s). Not to mention a few against some of the fastest bowlers ever like Jeff Thomson and...
