I reckon he'll retire after the rematch. The only thing thing waiting for him after that (presuming he wins) will be another rematch against the winner of Joshua and Fury, and I don't think he or too many other people will see the point in it.

Good fight, Usyk deserving of the win but Fury looked like he was going to run away with it after 7 rounds. I think the 114-113 score for Usyk was probably reasonably fair. Genuinely looking forward to the rematch, which I wasn't expecting before the fight.

So much for Sanchez being the next big thing. Kabayel though looks genuine quality.

When was the zenith of each side?

It's tricky with NZ. You naturally gravitate towards some point in the mid-80's: the series win in Australia or the home series draw v WI. The truth is though that besides Hadlee, Crowe and Wright (and some solid journeymen like Chatfield, Bracewell and Smith) they were pretty ordinary looking...

Was Dan Vettori better than the stats suggest

Probably also worth noting that during Vettori's golden era with the bat (roughly the start of 2005 to the end of 2011), NZ's batting resources were dreadfully thin, and he was usually coming out to bat at a stage of the innings that would be more typical for a number 6 or 7 in most teams.

Lol Garcia is the gift that keeps on giving. "I don't even know what ostarine is! I've never even heard of it." 2 minutes later. "Also if I'd been on it I would've made 140 because it helps with losing weight!"

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Yeah, surely Clarkson would back himself as a better chance to hit 10 off 4 than O'Rourke to get 9 off 4. Bit of inexperience set in in that last over no need to go for the suisingle off the first ball either given it was a wide. Overall though, a good little A tour.

It'll be Henry, Boult and Ferguson for the quicks. Sears may get taken along as cover for Ferguson in the event of injury but knowing Stead it'll probably be Southee as the backup.

Just watched the highlights, jeez Sodhi bowls some pies. The catching continues to be appallingly bad, and it's the regular internationals (Chapman, Macewell) who seem to be the most at fault. Some nice spells there from O'Rourke and Sears. Sears in particular really deserves to be in New...

New Zealand odi team of the 90s, should've been world beators?

NZ were a decent team in the late 90's, but I feel their performance in the 99 World Cup reflected their ceiling - a distant fourth behind Aus, SA and Pakistan.

Nathan Smith having a good game with the bat this time (33* and 57) though a more modest 107/3 with the ball.

Kinda funny that he's bowled way faster in tests (close to 146 at the Basin) than we've seen him bowl in t20's and ODI's. Seems like the kinda guy who needs time at the crease to find his rhythm.

Was Dan Vettori better than the stats suggest

One of my favourite "Andrew Miller is a cartoon of an English cricket" writer moments was the time he insisted that Graeme Swann was the best test match #8 bat in the world because Vettori was SO good that he shouldn't be batting at 8.

I'm glad we have the DRS but I feel like the game's really lost something by no longer giving us the chance to experience little moments of comedy like this.
