Marseilles only valued him that because they knew Chelsea have heaps of cash and they wanted to cash in on him so they they told Chelsea 'if you want Drogba, then you must pay us x' and I think Lyon did the same for Essien.

If Chelsea to pay 25 mil for Ashley Cole, wouldn't that make them idiots when they could have had the option of Zambrotta for more then half that price when they had the chance? You have to question their transfer policy sometimes, but not if you hate them.

Especially after his poor last season.

Although Dr Massimo Moratti has denied this, I guess he runs the risk of being lynched if he does.

I was more wondering where they had the money from, unless Mr Glazer is throwing some of his own personal fortune in to fund the purchase, but given that he brought the club under so much debt that would be very unlikely.
Actually, if his missus doesn't like Milan she'll absolutely adore Manchester, I'm sure!!

Are they still together?

I actually doubt Glazer's very "hands-on" since his stroke(s), TBH. Perhaps his sons are a bit freer with the old man's money! "Yeah, just sign there, Pops. Whoah, careful not to drool on it!"

Arsenal should milk this opportunity for all its worth, they are losing the best player in that position in the world potentially, so they need to make the best of it. They can afford it i'm sure, so arsenal wont care. Only problem is, im not sure how long coles contract has to run, arsenal may want to sell him now rather than wait for it to run down as i remember cole only signed a short term contract really last year, and losing him for nothing would be awful, also i find it surprising that chelsea apparently have not offered any sort of player plus cash deal but instead just drawn up straight cash offers.

Anyway so what is people's tips for this season? I think unless something drastic happens Chelsea will more then likely be winning their 3rd Premiership in a row.

Champions: Chelsea
CL: Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal (not in any order)
Relegated: Watford, Reading, Sheffield United
Highest goalscorer: Thierry Henry (Piscine will ljust love it)
Biggest surprise package/s: Newcastle, Portsmouth
Biggest flop/s: Middlesborough, Didier Drogba
Best player: Frank Lampard
FA Cup: Liverpool
Carling Cup: Newcastle (may as well make it their goal)

yeah cant see much i disagree with there, although i would pick aliaksander hleb as being the best player, my tip anyway.
Anyone who's lived elsewhere presumably?
haha, dunno, some parts of yorkshire such as sheffield for example are probably worse imo.

sheffield is a hole PY, you know it as well as i do, you must have gone soft on it living there :p

is like a bigger, dirtier, more concrete and industrial version of rotherham, to be avoided ;)

Barnsley is probably the worst big conurbation in Yorkshire in my experience. Although some parts of Hull are fairly scummy it must be said.

oh yes, thats true, hull is i think top of the list of crap towns published in the book of crap towns i think...speaking of barnsley though, my parents and sister stopped for tea there this evening as they are attempting to drive home from scotland rather than trying to get back in through heathrow.

on a more football related subject, ashley cole was left out of arsenals official team photograph for the season, looks ominous, despite chelsea saying they have broken off negotiations, this looks to me like a fairly good indication that the move is still on.

You told me you'd never been!

Sheffield doesn't quite suffer from concrete-itis as bad as Manchester though the centre of Manchester is probably nicer due to investment after the bombing.

Barnsley is pretty nasty, Hull takes the biscuit for me though. Absolute unadulterated turd. :p
