% of team wickets plus WPI/WPM wouldn't answer the question of who had more competition. Stronger Aus batting means more opportunities to take 20 wickets. A better bowler could have more competition and still end up with fewer wickets if they have nothing totals to bowl at. Unless Ambose had more of a habit of getting injured and being unable to bowl in thw 2nd innings, this would explain why Mcgrath has a notably higher WPM but not WPI.

Anyway, it's not just the batting:

WI bowling for matches involving Ambrose:
Average 27.4 SR 75.5
Aus bowling for matches involving Mcgrath:
Average 25.8 SR 66.8
I mean I was sort of being tongue in cheek.

But anybody with sense knows McGrath had more competition.

Guess I'm a bit short on sense then. About 1.5 of Bishop, Walsh and Marshall playing with him on average sounds comparable to me without the stats. I guess WI had a number of fairly meh guys and a lot of Hooper bowling.

We all agree he's top 5. Have you not seen all seen the poll results or are you in denial. He's beating Lillee and he beat Imran. As he should. Deal with it. "We"? lol lol. It's just you and one or two hold outs.
So your opinions totally match with every poll done by CW? Got it.

My opinions dont align but it's rare. For example Ambrose recently narrowly lost out to Warne which I readily accept. You won't see me going on page after page telling people how wrong they are. In another, the Dev atg one, most thought he was atg, I didn't. We went back and forth. Most understood but logic but still disagreed, we all hugged and moved on. Do you need a hug to move on pass your Ambrose hate??

So we are the same the only difference is I voice my opinions about it which you object to. Boohoo.

Umm no. You literally said it's your mission to pull the likes of Lara, Ambrose and others down a rung or two. I don't have that agenda. The irony being, when others do the same to your idol, you act like they're being irrational. Anyway Subz I still appreciate your input.

You mean like how you spoke about Miller defeating Kallis as definitive proof that one was better, when he beat him by 2 points?

Do you know what the vote difference was between Ambrose and Imran? And it's been consistently that way for every single poll.

None of your arguments makes any sense.

You criticize Ambrose for lack of penetration, yet they're basically the same and away from home Ambrose has quite the advantage.

I can make the argument that Ambrose has more of an argument or is closer to McGrath, than Imran is to Ambrose.

Funny you say that because outside of CW quite a few pundits have Ambrose and McGrath pretty much neck and neck. Warne for example rated Ambrose above Glenn. Of course I've also seen Akram and especially Lillee rated exceedingly high so there's that.

OMG get over that poll result. The only time I refer to those polls is to rebuke the idea you have that Kallis by consensus rated ahead of Miller. Please check.

YOU are the one bringing up poll results as if they matter so much. I can show examples.

Do you know what the vote difference was between Ambrose and Imran? And it's been consistently that way for every single poll.
Who cares? They are wrong. As they are about Ambrose vs Lillee.

I've always criticized Ambrose on a country by country basis. Stop strawmanning.

I find it surprising that Bumrah has played 8+ Tests in more countries than Lillee and even Ambrose

People who rated Lillee highly are the ones who lives through his reign as the greatest of all time. Nothing wrong with that.

And yes, I rate McGrath slightly ahead of Ambrose, but that's because after the surgery he wasn't quite the same bowler.

Prior to that, Ambrose can arguably be seen to have the advantage.
