Gillespie often looked a diminished force when McGrath was out of the lineup, and didn't have to do anywhere near as much heavy lifting as Kapil did carrying an impotent bowling attack. Kapil had incredible numbers against the strongest team of his time (Gillespie did do well vs India as well, but was found very wanting in the 04 home series when Mcgrath was out).

It's close but I certainly don't think there's any big gap between them on primary discipline.
Gillespie's issues was his fitness, nothing more nothing less. And that very well was what diminished his performances vs india in 2004. Yet overall vs the best batting he faced, Gillespie was excellent. And it's interesting that we generally big up McGrath for bowling and doing well in a flat era (I do too). Gillespie bowled in the very same era and did fine as well all things considered.

Ofcourse doesn't . But some of his worst also came in some of the worst roads also. Like his bad Pakistan record is just for his debut series in a series our best bowler averaged 48, others 100+
Most bowlers have to bowl on the odd road. Kapil never had a great sustained peak, had clear visible limitations, and his overall average&overseas average were never more impressive than they ended up. I don't think there's anything that suggests he was a notably bowler than his raw numbers.

I rate Walsh ahead of Kapil as a bowler too. Kyear is getting belittled for suggesting Kapil as a cricketer can't make it in a team over Walsh.
Dev can but it really depends on the team's make up. But in general I'd pick Walsh in my team over Dev, the way some on here (cough cough Subz) would pick Sachin over Kallis.

Not as much as Kapil, not everyone bowls in as flat conditions regularly. No peak basically means very consistent 16 years, his overall average overseas and at home against the best 2 teams he played is hella impressive, as is his Pak and Eng record not that poor. So yeah, I do think he was a better bowler than someone like Botham, Gillespie or Broad

In an average team Kapil or Kallis would be picked ahead of Walsh or Sachin.

Even though there is a marginal difference in primary discipline, their all round ability will play an important role.

You've got to be kidding me. I've seen you rip into players over and over again who everyone else on here more or less considers to be class: Ashwin, Kallis, Lara, etc. Yet you are here castigating kyear2 because in your opinion, he underrates a player you fancy. Wow....
I castigate Kyear not much for who he rates but moreso for his hypocrisy and double standards. Look at the examples I have mentioned in this very thread.
