This sort of thing is exactly what I'm talking about with short sighted thinking. Putting so much stock in such a small sample size of games is just completely the wrong way of going about things, you need to look at a larger body of work to at least semi accurately gauge how any player (especially a specialist bat) is tracking

The whole "you're only as good as your last game" cliche has always been complete horseshit
Total over reaction to my post which was only to show there are top order test spots up for grabs and guys are not doing anything to separate themselves from the bunch

As for body of work, every player I mentioned obviously has a body of work that have them on the fringe of test selection, including being in latest CA XI and Aus A games

Omg I just saw Wardy’s lbw decision and I’m torn because it hit him on the thigh pad and wasn’t out, but it was Big S3xeh bowling

To be fair, I'd take an umpiring screwjob over being dismissed like Silk yesterday.

How the **** do you chop on to the longiest long hop ever bowled by Lloyd Pope

What's with the 2 week gap between Shield games when footy has already started 😉

WA vs NSW at the WACA next round is a huge game as winner will have best chance to join SA in the final. NSW needs to have Lyon and one of the "big 3" pacers play (Cummins and Hazlewood must be close to being fit?)

Just been reported Cam Green has locked in a contract to play 5 matches for Gloucestershire in April/May before the WTC Final.

With his plan to play the last Shield round (and possible final) that's 6-7 FC games to get himself right to slot straight back into the Aus middle order

Owen's made a 47 ball ton for TAS in the one day cup. Since the breakout BBL campaign he's gone 48(19) and 121(59)* in List-A stuff. He's also got more professional centuries than Mcgurk in a 3rd of the innings, and 2 more t20 centuries in in a 3rd of the innings, a sr 30 higher and an average 10 higher.

Actually, I'd like to point out his career trajectory perfectly correlated with me taking the piss out of a 50 he scored in Tassie when he was averaging 13 or so.

As I've often said, many a career has been launched on the back of me not rating someone.

I saw him score that 48 & he was really impressive

Basically “all he did” was drive full length balls for 6 and either cut or pull short balls into the stands

Unlike JFM, there was no premeditated slogging

Just outstanding hitting

There's a fair bit of luck involved. Not taking away from the achievement and his repeated performances show it's not all good fortune, but he was dropped a few times and a lot of his shots could easily have gotten him out

I think half of the first 50 runs were hacks over the onside which skewed off to third man for four, definitely not some flawless example of power hitting throughout.
