It’s unlikely but if Smith retires averaging 55+, he’ll probably be rated higher than Viv and Lara. I don’t think most people really care about his record in SA though.

SR is overrated, Aura is overrated (in all sports tbh, though I can’t say I haven’t fallen victim to that myself), sub par performance outside one of the best peaks ever.

In fact a closer look at his peak was indeed what inspired me to recently move him up a couple spots.

I have been following smith career since his debut and have seen almost every innings of him since bgt 14/15. I would say every time smith came vs atg or potential atg he either failed or barley made few runs
Smith did well vs styen in 14 sa tour but failed horribly during 18 series similarly vs bumrah did ok in 20/21 bgt but barley made runs during 24/25 bgt averaging @32. He never dominated atg bowlers but viv has multiple atg series vs Lillee imran wasim and hadlee where he dominated then

Viv did score against chandra bedi and prasanna in 74 and 76. Viv pre eye surgery was superb player of spin in 84 and 88 it was viv past his peak. Yes smith in his peak scored on rank turners but can he do now

Smith literally averages less then 40 in matches featuring bumrah and rabada two potential atgs of his generation. Even vs ashwin and jadeja two great spinners of his era he had mixed results with expection of one atg series.Where has viv had atg series vs atg fast bowlers Lillee imran wasim and hadlee and great spinners like chandra bedi and prasanna

Tell me which atg bowler did smith face in 2019 ashes? Even if we consider Anderson to be atg( he is not) he was out injured in first session of first test match. Archer was quick but guys like viv and sachin faced thomson peak imran( who bowled 150kph regularly ) akthar and lee and dominated them and archer is nothing compered to those bowlers. The fact is that smith hasnt proven himself vs atg fast bowlers

Like Viv only has only 3: Lillee, Hadlee and Imran. I don't think 80s Wasim counts as ATG really. Also Rabada and Ashwin at home are definitely top tier ATGs, can't think of an equivalent case here.

You seem to spend too much time on pakpassion.

Do some stats search and the numbers say otherwise, Viv is arguably the best player of fast bowling but it's not like Hadlee and Imran were conceding 90 runs in 10 overs everytime they bowled to Viv.

Babar Azam hammered Steyn in one of his classy 50s, hence Babar Azam > Steven Smith.
