Always has been....You've finally gone insane
depends on the opposition, Boycott's stronger defensive game would save the match if it's like chasing 250 on final day but against West Indies for example his defensive game would be more useful, or he'd hold the strike and give the rest of the team the license to freely attack, playing the anchor role while playing 50-60 SR.And that's fair, but what happens when you have the quick day 5 run chase, or looking to score quick runs in the 3rd innings to set up a total. That's what was different about guys like Barry or even Greenidge, they could set the stage or become the main event. While in the process, wrecking the game plan, not to mention the rotation and the bowlers lines and relieving pressure for the batters to follow.
It's also easier to score when you cut out shots and don't take chances.
Gooch is significantly better than Cook.Cause I ain't buying this recent Gooch hype train..... I have Cook over him as well
Barry and Gavaskar are tier 1I find it harder to rate openers than any other position. Boycott is definitely one of the most productive openers ever, he's also one of the most limited cricketers ever. I find it difficult to balance that.
Barry, Sunny, Sir Gordon.
After that...
Smith, Gooch, Boycott?
Barry, Gavaskar and Geoffrey for me.
So which is in your actual top 2?Gavaskar/Boycott/Barry/Greenidge/Gooch (inb4 Coronis)
Barry due to averaging 10 over Greenidge from the exact same situations. So which is in your actual top 2?
Barry or Boycott?
Barry was at his peak, Greenidge a budding batsman. Not the exact same situation.Barry due to averaging 10 over Greenidge from the exact same situations.
You literally have Barry in the ATG tierBarry was at his peak, Greenidge a budding batsman. Not the exact same situation.
That's a different issueYou literally have Barry in the ATG tier
Gavaskar
Barry
Boycott
Gooch
Greenidge
Hayden
Smith
Pretty sure you rate Hazare higher and Willis a bit lower now.Ummm..... I will go:
MaCartney
Shrewsbury
Willis
Simpson
Smith
Healy
Chandrashekhar
Snow
Hazare
Ponsford
Gower
Constantine
Now I do..... Hazare and Merchant are so tough to rate!!Pretty sure you rate Hazare higher and Willis a bit lower now.
You rate them highly as cricketers right? Now I do..... Hazare and Merchant are so tough to rate!!
I do but not sure how highly honestly. You rate them highly as cricketers right?
Gower is a bit low for me. Averaged 46 overseas in a very tough era&conquered no3 in England.Pretty sure you rate Hazare higher and Willis a bit lower now.
amazing work at home against Hadlee and Kapil too, good against home Ashes as wellGower is a bit low for me. Averaged 46 overseas in a very tough era&conquered no3 in England.
Any excuse you can find I see, lol.Barry was at his peak, Greenidge a budding batsman. Not the exact same situation.
Really dude?That's a different issue
Gower is surely a more accomplished test batsman than Hazare. Vijay was a FC monster but the standard of bowling faced is a bit dubious.amazing work at home against Hadlee and Kapil too, good against home Ashes as well
