WTC 2025 Final : Qualifying scenario

Better off trying to schedule long series at home against **** teams and making your away series and series against better sides 2 matches each then.
And this is the irony of the WTC, the route to success in it is completely at odds with financial stability for those who need it most.

Test nations are somewhat arbitrary to begin with:

West Indies - Short lived country, but the team includes people from the countries that were never part of the political federation and doesn't include some former British colonies in the region.
England - Is made from players from two constitute countries from the UK. Oddly enough an argument could be made that Australian states have a greater degree of sovereignty than the UK's constituent countries.

WTC been losing steam ever since the first final. It’s no where near the level of winning an ODI or T20 World Cup. And I still think it’s a joke how it’s a one test final at the end. So that can favour a team
More that comes in with less injuries or suits the conditions better so that doesn’t necessarily show who’s better in a one off match.

Tests have always been played in series and I think the final should be the same. You get a 3 match series one home, away and neutral this would buildup more hype especially if both sides haven’t faced each other in that cycle

Is anyone actually going to turn up to watch an Australia vs South Africa Test at Lords?

Having the WTC final always at Lords is bizarre. Top of the table should get a home test (with neutral curators)
By looks of it, Lords is certain to be the neutral venue in every cycle so why not.

It will indeed be interesting to see if they have learned from the underwhelming attendance at the Sri Lanka test this year and drop their prices for the final. If they don’t we could see a thin crowd.

WTC is not even close to the scale of winning a "world cup" regardless of format. And you know what it may well be dumped after 2027. So it's maybe already on its last heels.

Whatever it takes!!!
I agree it probably means the least of the 3 or 4 ICC trophies going around today but I would disagree that it means "nothing". It has definitely added more context to test cricket around the world and made some neutrals take notice and pay attention to games that does not involve their team. Any concept needs time and I would hope they give this more time and make it more fair (like 3 tests for each series ) etc. I would absolutely hate it if this died so soon, as a fan.

It's a compromise of different ideas and interests, which ultimately required the clearance and rubber stamp of the Big 3. Of course the format was going to start off a bit ****.

But it's far, far better for the health of Test cricket for it to exist, than the alternative without it.

Exactly. I’d rather have this very flawed product than nothing at all. At worst no one cares and you get an extra Test match.

Just can’t understand the opposing argument. It’s like when mouth breathers were bleating on about DRS not being perfect.

Not Terrible
IPL and the other leagues seem more important than the T20 WC honestly. I do kind of wish the Champions League was still around.

It's the second most important ICC Trophy. ODI World Cup is just 1000 miles ahead of anything else. Genuinely couldn't tell you any T20 WC winners.
I'm guessing Australia won the last T20 WC but only because I read recently that Australia now have a full trophy cabinet 😉
