I bet Hearne wishes this was a FC match as it would be his first FC century.

Probably should be a FC match as technically 13 players allows 2 extra bowlers and 2 better batsman to bat in the XI so it's stronger teams

why's that?
Would assume it's because he actually has a genuinely gun county record, unlike many others in that team

Strongly disagree. If players just only have to bother with part of the game then there will never be the same sort of intensity as a genuine FC game. It's really not much more than centre wicket practice imo

Because he's the anti-BazKey pace bowler. Not very tall and not very fast. Averages 19 - for 308 wickets - but can't get in the test squad atm because he lacks those qualities.
Cook should at the very least should have got a couple of tests last Summer. We don't know how he will go at Test level until he gets a chance. But there are plenty of bowlers who aren't tall and bowl at 80 clicks who've been successful at this level so it's too soon to write him off without seeing him. It's a joke than a second xi level cricketer like Josh Hull can play ahead of him.

The Australia A side has been named to face England Lions on 30 Jan.

Australia A: Jack Edwards (c), Xavier Bartlett, Brendan Doggett, Jordan Buckingham, Jayden Goodwin, Aaron Hardie, Fergus O'Neill, Kurtis Patterson, Josh Philippe, Corey Rocchiccioli, Will Sutherland , Tim Ward

It looks like they've locked in the Ward & Goodwin to open experiment from CA XI. That leaves Patterson, Hardie and Philippe in top 5, then Edwards and Sutherland at 6-7. Looks a batsman short

Goodwin opening in this game makes a lot more sense if they wanted him to do it for Aus A as well.

Definitely a batsman short though - three frontline seamers batting in the top seven, most players from 4 down batting one or even two spots ahead of where they do in Shield cricket. Would have been better balanced if they picked Hunt here too.

That's one really interesting batting line-up in the Aus A. Selectors don't seem to think we have another decent bat so going with 3 allrounders in top 7 (why do we need 6 pace bowlers?)

1. Goodwin
2. Ward
3. Patterson
4. Hardie
5. Philippe
6. Edwards
7. Sutherland
8. Bartlett
9. O'Neil
10. Rocchiccioli
11. Doggett / Buckingham

Batting is very light but the bowling looks good. Throw jhye/morris/Spo Jo in over Doggett and you've got an exciting youngish attack.

Hardie hasn’t bowled in a couple of months so might be playing as a batsman only
I read previously Hardie was hoping to bowl before end of BBL I haven't heard anything in last couple of weeks though (I assumed he'd be right to bowl in Champions Trophy)

This CA XI game is like watching ODIs with 3 innings finished in 148 overs. CA XI only need 261 to win with 2 days and a session to go so should be easy. I'm thinking they'll be lucky to bat 40 overs

Nice, new Aus A opening pair Goodwin and Ward batting against future England pacer Sam Cook and current England Test spinner Shoaib Bashir

I guess Tim Ward won't be in the next CA XI as he's just signed for BBL with the Hurricanes as an injury replacement
