Ok, I didn't know that. Doesn't explain Goodwin opening and Hunt at #3 though. I mean he's the leading run scorer in the Shield this year as an openerWard has spent most of his career opening tbf.

Shows how much I know, that pretty solid batting order just collapsed to 5-36Top 6 looks pretty solid though
Hunt, Ward, Goodwin, Clayton, Handscomb, Hearne
In fairness, I have little problem if it's Cook taking the wickets.Shows how much I know, that pretty solid batting order just collapsed to 5-36
why's that?In fairness, I have little problem if it's Cook taking the wickets.
Would assume it's because he actually has a genuinely gun county record, unlike many others in that teamwhy's that?
Strongly disagree. If players just only have to bother with part of the game then there will never be the same sort of intensity as a genuine FC game. It's really not much more than centre wicket practice imoProbably should be a FC match as technically 13 players allows 2 extra bowlers and 2 better batsman to bat in the XI so it's stronger teams
Because he's the anti-BazKey pace bowler. Not very tall and not very fast. Averages 19 - for 308 wickets - but can't get in the test squad atm because he lacks those qualities.why's that?
Cook should at the very least should have got a couple of tests last Summer. We don't know how he will go at Test level until he gets a chance. But there are plenty of bowlers who aren't tall and bowl at 80 clicks who've been successful at this level so it's too soon to write him off without seeing him. It's a joke than a second xi level cricketer like Josh Hull can play ahead of him.Because he's the anti-BazKey pace bowler. Not very tall and not very fast. Averages 19 - for 308 wickets - but can't get in the test squad atm because he lacks those qualities.
Goodwin opening in this game makes a lot more sense if they wanted him to do it for Aus A as well. The Australia A side has been named to face England Lions on 30 Jan.
Australia A: Jack Edwards (c), Xavier Bartlett, Brendan Doggett, Jordan Buckingham, Jayden Goodwin, Aaron Hardie, Fergus O'Neill, Kurtis Patterson, Josh Philippe, Corey Rocchiccioli, Will Sutherland , Tim Ward
It looks like they've locked in the Ward & Goodwin to open experiment from CA XI. That leaves Patterson, Hardie and Philippe in top 5, then Edwards and Sutherlsnd at 6-7. Looks a batsman short
Batting is very light but the bowling looks good. Throw jhye/morris/Spo Jo in over Doggett and you've got an exciting youngish attack. That's one really interesting batting line-up in the Aus A. Selectors don't seem to think we have another decent bat so going with 3 allrounders in top 7 (why do we need 6 pace bowlers?)
1. Goodwin
2. Ward
3. Patterson
4. Hardie
5. Philippe
6. Edwards
7. Sutherland
8. Bartlett
9. O'Neil
10. Rocchiccioli
11. Doggett / Buckingham
I read previously Hardie was hoping to bowl before end of BBL I haven't heard anything in last couple of weeks though (I assumed he'd be right to bowl in Champions Trophy)Hardie hasn’t bowled in a couple of months so might be playing as a batsman only
There's a next one?I guess Tim Ward won't be in the next CA XI as he's just signed for BBL with the Hurricanes as an injury replacement
