Have they officially moved on from Sodhi? Preferring an extra pacer for a SC tour seems like a statement, unless there’s something about his availability I may have missed.

Yeah I think Sodhi might be done. Partly his own unreliability in big games and partly the fact Neesham and de Grandhomme being effectively replaced by Phillips and Bracewell as the batting allrounders changes the spin/pace balance requirements of the specialists.

He does still have a central contract which is interesting. It'll be interesting to see if he keeps it.

If Santner gets injured we might concede some huge scores. Unfortunately Ashok hasn't done very well in Super Smash this summer, although got a couple of 4-fers in a Plumket Shield match.

I suspect they want to limit the amount of 135kph bowlers in the team since its Pakistan and an ICC tournament so presumably motorway central. Not convinced O'Rourke, Sears or Smith have the radar to survive that situation though despite some extra gas.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I didn't realize Sears hasn't actually played a ODI yet. Shades of Boult for the 2015 WC?

Whole thing is harsh on Duffy. I would've left Ferguson out myself. Turned down a contract, hasn't played a ODI since 2023 and presumably didn't play this series because he wanted to make money instead of getting some ODI practice in.

As well as bowling well in the BBL and being a middle over enforcer, Ferguson was insanely good in T20is last year:

Including his 4 maiden overs against PNG he played 10 T20is for 20 wickets @ 9.55 (e/r 4.88)

Yeah see that's why I'm actually OK with the selection of Sears. He showed something a little bit different in the Test v Australia, he's shown some admirable nous and fire in the T20s he's played, and they've backed him in those conditions over Duffy. I would do the same thing. OK, Duffy has come in and done a good job, but a) they're outside the XI b) you wouldn't necessarily back Duffy to come into a semi-final or similar, and be effective on a flat one v an in-form side.

As someone who vehemently opposed Boult coming in for the 2015 World Cup, and turned out looking like a real dick, these are the sort of things I reckon sides who push the envelope and get results need to do. Duffy would be a real conservative, usual Gary Stead sort of selection, in those conditions.

There's no way you can leave out Lockie. World class limited overs bowler, we don't have those in spades.

"It's a tough decision," Stead said. "Jacob Duffy has been probably the one that people would say is hard done by. He's been very very good in what he's played for us. I think the way to look at it, though, is that if some of these guys, perhaps like a Lockie Ferguson, were available, Jacob Duffy may not have got the opportunity"

Gary the master motivator! Chin up Jacob old son, thing is if a guy who didn't want a contract had wanted a contract and to play for us, you probably wouldn't have been in the side.

Lol, might as well have repeated KJ's infamous "You'll only ever be a domestic journeyman" sledge.

I mean Duffy is competing for Henry's spot overseas so not sure why everyone is shocked. We always complain about somehow ending up with four 135kph samey seamers everywhere, to break that up you have to make some risky selections as our express bowlers aren't always the top performers or consistently fit

Smith isn't ideal but he adds significant batting so he's a different slot
