Garner proved himself in multiple countries.with this logic Garner is higher than Imran and Steyn because they also have holes in their record while Garner doesn't
Yeah, as I said, I think he used to bowl seamers and gain movement early in the games but then revert to spin once the ball gets old, like maybe Barnes bowled "pace" like Bedser and then switched to being a top class spinner mid way through, that would explain the conflicting reports about him as a bowler. In ESPN profile he is classified as someone who bowled Right arm fast Medium and Right arm Medium. Wikipedia includes Right arm Leg spin.
Guess he really didn't need the Googly...
that doesn't answer my question, is Garner better than Imran and Steyn as his averages are lower accross the board than him? or Steyn for that matter.Garner proved himself in multiple countries.
Trueman was great in just one country.
Eh, tbf Donald probably has more fans than Garner but I can't really think of a fair argument for Donald over GarnerMaybe I should've included Donald in the poll as well.

Peer ratings and how they performed compared to contemporaries?I am not really sure how to rate great bowlers who played 100 years ago - Fred Spofforth. George Lohmann. Sydney Barnes. All of them played in just 2 countries and against mostly one opponent so we don’t know how great they really were.
He was way too exceptional in South Africa as well.It is not fair to compare him with modern day greats. It’s ridiculous to call Barnes the greatest bowler ever. He played one good team and in 2 countries.
Maybe Barnes could have been like the great Dennis Lillee who was extraordinary in England and Australia.
Very few people in here call him the greatest ever. And it's not his fault that test cricket was in it's initial stage when he was doing the stuff he was doing. It is not fair to compare him with modern day greats. It’s ridiculous to call Barnes the greatest bowler ever. He played one good team and in 2 countries.
