Aussies are quick enough to recognise when a batsman is not getting in line with the ball and will just bowl straight to him.

I reckon this pitch needs to be the template for NZ going forwards. The green carpeted seamy roads were great when we had 2 world class swing bowlers and a raging sadomasochist in the attack. But with the attack now headlined by Henry and O'Rourke, the preservation of swing at the expense of all other considerations is no longer the right strategy.

I think that's just about lights out for England in this test.

Man, watching this afternoon's play, it's hard to escape the conclusion that if Phillips swallows that chance off Brook and reduces England to 77/5 at Hagley then NZ wins that game comfortably
