You can. It wont make them any less of a fact.I disagree with all 3 of these facts tbh

Logan van Beek played one of the Greatest ODI super over performances in history…but we will not talk about it because it was against WI in a WC qualifierKevin O Brien played one of the greatest ODI innings I have ever seen but since he is not a star, that knock is rarely given much credit.
Hmma pre-peak Rabada
Rabada was still worldclass at home at the timeIt does take some level of bias to rate a close to retirement Steyn, Philander and a pre-peak Rabada, Maharaj and inconsistent Olivier over peak McGrath, Gillespie, MacGill and an inbetween peaks Warney.
Just some fact checking ..It does take some level of bias to rate a close to retirement Steyn, Philander and a pre-peak Rabada, Maharaj and inconsistent Olivier over peak McGrath, Gillespie, MacGill and an inbetween peaks Warney.
Steyn bowled very well that test in the first innings too iirc. He wasn't at his very best of course but certainly not past it entirely (don't think he ever was, injuries aside). Will say Philander was injured in the 4th innings, so it takes some of the gloss off, but the rest of the attack was extremely potent still.Just some fact checking ..
Duanne Olivier was definitely not inconsistent at the time, he was about 10-15 kph quicker than he is now and had taken 44 wickets @18.57 in his test career after the Kingsmead test, he destroyed Pakistan in the previous series (24 wickets in 3 tests).
"Pre-Peak Rabada" still helped SA beat Australia home and away , 10fors vs England , his test record at the time was 171 test wickets at 21.88 and he was probably at his fastest in terms of pace. Philander is one of the greatest new ball bowlers in SA conditions ever and he was just as accurate in 2019 , he only averaged 28 that calender year because of the tour of India.
Steyn yes is the only one that went off the boil , Kingsmead is Maharaj's home ground and he averages 22 with the ball in his test career at the venue.
Fixed. You're welcomeIt’s LAURA.
Also have to consider that Kusal Perera is not even a top 100 batsman in Test cricket, so while an ATG knock is completely capable for an ATG like Lara , Kusal Perera raised his game to a level nobody thought he was capable of in an overseas test to allow Sri Lanka to become the first Asian side ever to win a series in SA, even Lara couldn't do that and he came to SA with better teams than the SL side that won in 2019.Steyn bowled very well that test in the first innings too iirc. Olivier was definitely at his best but I dont think he was particularly consistent even then. The Pak series was definitely awesome but he was not so great, as I recall, even in the next test against SL.Just some fact checking ..

All arguable at best.It really is just straight forward as the attack, the conditions and the actual batting quality were all better in the Lara knock
I dont think so at all, having watched both innings almost fully live. All arguable at best.
I do feel like a worse batsman producing an excellent knock should lend some weight to how “great” the innings is.Also have to consider that Kusal Perera is not even a top 100 batsman in Test cricket, so while an ATG knock is completely capable for an ATG like Lara , Kusal Perera raised his game to a level nobody thought he was capable of in an overseas test to allow Sri Lanka to become the first Asian side ever to win a series in SA, even Lara couldn't do that and he came to SA with better teams than the SL side that won in 2019.
That definitely was the sense in the commentary box about Lara's innings, they could win as long as he is there. Whereas there was genuine shock with Perera winning.I do feel like a worse batsman producing an excellent knock should lend some weight to how “great” the innings is.
Not sure if there’s any logic I can put to it right now but it just feels right. For example throughout the innings you might be thinking “Oh we still have a shot we have Lara and he looks good”. Not sure anyone would have thought that about Perera. Adds to the moment for sure.
Something about SL batters that is so mysterious. They are the true diamond in the rough. Also have to consider that Kusal Perera is not even a top 100 batsman in Test cricket, so while an ATG knock is completely capable for an ATG like Lara , Kusal Perera raised his game to a level nobody thought he was capable of in an overseas test to allow Sri Lanka to become the first Asian side ever to win a series in SA, even Lara couldn't do that and he came to SA with better teams than the SL side that won in 2019.
