Genuine question. And not only related to this subject but in general.
When you look at these hundreds, do you look at context, or it just spread sheets?
Look at context, scores, who it was against? Was it a dight back knock or downhill skiing?
Like for top order guys, was it a match winning efforts of just doing their own thing?
I go by innings list (That might also be considered spread sheet, but that's the best I can do).
Imran Khan:-
123*(199) vs WI in1980
Though the match was drawn, the innings was still pretty important considering the fact that none of the top 5 batters could score anything above 32.
70*(111) vs AUS at Melbourne
The top order did perform in this match, but still an important knock to impose a follow on on the Aussies.
67*(131) vs ENG at Leeds
was the top scorer in that innings, and then came up with 5-49 while bowling and scored another 46 in the 2nd Innings. Pakistan did lose the match and the 3 match series, But Imran scored 212 runs and took 21 wickets in that series.
117*(121) vs IND
there were 3 hundreds scored in that innings beside his 117. But he did score those runs striking at 96.69 and hit 5 sixes.
83(169) and 72*(153) vs AUS at Melbourne
Pakistan's top order in the 2nd innings almost collapsed (81 for the loss of 5), making an innings loss very probable, but imran came up with a 72 not out to draw the match.
135*(230) vs IND in Chennai
This hundred might not have been that important considering the fact that the match would still be drawn without the innings. But still, 135 not out as a number 8 is still impressive.
118*(201) vs ENG at the Oval, 71(139) in Wellington & 69*(153) in Auckland vs NZ
Again, these innings also might have not been that important for the result, but they did come away from home.
109*(146) vs IND
Scored the highest score of the innings at a healthy strike rate.
136(361) vs Australia at Adelaide
Imran came to bat when Pakistan were 22-4. Imran batted for as long as he could. Only he and Wasim were responsible to take the score from 90-5 to 387/9D to save the match.
82*(203) vs AUS at Sydney
The match was almost destined for a draw after the first 2 days were washed out, until Pakistan lost their 4 wickets for 51 runs. 4 of the top 5 batters couldn't even get past 10 runs.
And the argument was about consistency, And Kapil produced ducks as much frequently as he produced 50's away from home. Many of Imran's not out knocks were often important in the context of the game.
