Whatever it takes!!!
Its kinda funny that someone recalls 3 or 4 false shots in an innings of 153 that was played all day with the expectation that they can lead them to a win against an innings which was all about swinging the bat everywhere coz the #11 is here and then tightened up and actually went for the win when it finally came down to 20 odd required, with countless edges and shots that landed in no-man's land.

As I said, watching cricket is kinda important to post about cricket, unless its someone who doesnt mind posting idiotic biased nonsense always, like salty, I guess.

Pretty clear the innings were close in quality. Denying that makes you seem biased, my friend, not me.

Lara’s 153* came in a high scoring match. In Bridgetown, there were 3 other centuries in that match - Waugh scored 199, Ponting scored 104 and Sherwin Cambell scored 105. There were 2 fifties as well - Langer’s 51 & Ridley Jacob’s 68.

In Durban, there were no centuries. De Kock scored 80 & 55. De Plessis scored 90.

All above is true but Waugh and Ponting are a class apart from anyone that played in that south africa test. Still Perreras knock was otherworldly. No questions asked.

I dont think the impossibility of the situation was any different when Windies were like 40/4 against that ATG attack on a last day track full of spite compared to relatively benign conditions Perera faced. I definitely think Perera's innings was more unexpected and less likely but that does not make it better in terms of quality.

As I said, the fact that Lara faced a far better attack in far tougher conditions and played a far less jammy knock means Lara's innings is better but a small yet clear margin.

Its kinda funny that salty thinks he can rate cricket just based on numbers (which is a silly unsuccessful way to hide his bias usually).

Pathetically sad as usual.

Umm there was one high score, a low score and two moderate totals. Hardly a high scoring test.

Its also funny that people think test match pitches dont change over 5 days and that runs on day 1 or 2 mean absolutely nothing to the conditions encountered on day 5.

As I said, watching the game is kinda important and its usually funny to see biased idiots use spreadsheets to back up their bias.

We need more threads like this rather than Player A vs Player B

Let’s zone in on their feats in a match, and bring in the supporting cast- players, umpires, crowd, conditions.

KJP played a fantastic knock, but the one I remember most is the 1999 Lara one because of nostalgia and the pure entertainment at the end.

Lara's knock was definitely more iconic.
