Wasn't so much a batting era, but rather he played for himself. Also managed to skip those rough years in the 50's . Shades of Haydos a bit.

He was ruthless and had the ability to turn a match in a session.

Not everything can be ready from a spreadsheet.

That’s just his batting style. Gavaskar or Barrington or Kallis can’t dominate like Ponting or Lara or Viv but they can sure save the match which latter can’t do.

Speaking for someone who was watching him, yes they were. Some may not have agreed with it, and I feared where his average was going to end up, but it was being discussed.

Subtract Barrington’s runs, innings and not outs and recalculate manually. (Using the batting tab and listing by overall aggregate rather than using the overall aggregate makes sure it only lists the actual runs the batsmen themselves scored, rather than including extras in the tally)

I did some away averages without minnows and opposition distributions etc. I also had a look at batting averages when the rest of the team are averaging 30 or below runs per wicket for a few guys.
