Barrington played 2 Tests in 1955. He came back in 1959 and retired in 1968.

He played against 6 countries. He averages 50+ against 5 of them.

He played in 8 countries and averages 45+ everywhere.

In 80 Tests, he scored 6754 runs at an average of 59.77 with 20 centuries(1959-1968).

There is often a complaint levelled that he played in a batting era. During his career, he was the best batsman for his team and arguably the best in the world.

Ponting, for a period of time was discussed as being the best after Bradman.

He was ruthless and had the ability to turn a match in a session.

Not everything can be ready from a spreadsheet.

Maybe the best in their country.

I do not think he was considered the best since Bradman by anyone.
Speaking for someone who was watching him, yes they were. Some may not have agreed with it, and I feared where his average was going to end up, but it was being discussed.
