I know no one agrees with me, and that's ok.

But when one looks at Marshall's peak and the on field impact that it had, the dominance, the fear, the skill the magnificently rounded record, and think he lost all of two matches as an opening bowler.

Yeah, Lloyd and Viv built it, but he drove that car to previously unseen heights.

Think he's the most underrated cricketer, and at worst a top 5 player of all time.
Nah. Marshall was simply a slightly greater fast bowler in a team of great fast bowlers. He couldn't stop the decline of the ATG team nor was he fundamental to building the side.

He got lucky that he could enter an ATG side with the greatest ever bowling support and just kept the engine running.

I have to laugh at you calling Marshall underrated but not admitting that about Hadlee.

Marshall had no real legacy either outside of just his wickets.

No disrespect to Sachin, but he didn't have the same on field impact and a lot of his motivation was records based. Once saw Small call him statdulkar, wouldn't go that far obviously, but Marshall would be my choice there.
Tendulkar had a career nearly twice as long as Marshalls so there is no comparison in terms of the value each brought to their side.

Marshall's entire career is basically just about his peak. It's not even the greatest peak ever (Imran was) but he was lucky he didn't have the early career years and late career years added to weigh down his stats.

Compare that to McGrath who was worldclass for twice as long as Marshall.

He's the best bowler ever, should count for something.

But Sachin could bowl and he could take wicked. He isn't an all rounder but he is more useful than mere batsman So he did have some impact to bring with both bat and ball.

Sachin is just better than Marshall even if he never bowled a ball.

That was Garner. Marshall lost 5.

Marshall > Hobbs > McGrath > Tendulkar for me in primary discipline, the impact of Hobbs and Tendulkar may make them greater cricketers though.
I don't mind the argument. Wouldn't use "impact". Marshall and McGrath had greater impact towards winning, Hobbs was the first Test ATG, the original master. Sachin played forever and has all the records.

Influence?

Influence/Impact on cricket as a game in general.

Influence yeah, they both played 22 and 24 years respectively and just had insane impact on the game itself

Yes and that's why Marshall can't be ahead of them. He played literally only half of their careers.
According to ****ing you.

The impact he had in those years and how he also helped to shape the game was just as evident and important. And for you to call him a passenger is both disingenuous and idiotic.

He won, that's literally the purpose of the game, and importantly, more often than not, he was the reason they won.

Dude, Marshall was a better batsman than Sachin was a bowler. And it wasn't close.
