Let us wait for him to actually finish his career. Simply saying he will never be able to as good as Viv when he is just starting his career is biased.

iirc Viv wasn’t subpar in England or against multiple opposition at this point in his career

there are some shades of Viv in him but he's obviously not reaching Viv so
Before I saw the thread pop up, was sitting here thinking I just don't see it.

Despite what two posters in particular think, Viv had a pretty good technique.

He has a flawed front foot game and has shown problem on turners while Viv at a similar stage absolutely murderered the Quaret on spin friendly wickets, and Root is far inferior to Viv who has decisively outplayed Brook in England.

Viv played 121 Tests including 11 Tests in 1976.
Scored 20% of his runs and 30% of centuries of his career in just one year(1710 runs & 7 centuries) 😳
Spent two years of his prime playing WSC, which he dominated.

Played no minnows, played in one of the 3 toughest batting eras. Was still the best batsman of the 80's.

Pretty confident Brook can become Englands first 50+ averaging batsman since the 1950s and will have a well rounded record.

Looking forward to watching him bat in Australia and South Africa.
