RE the current trend bowling bouncers at the tail - I'd guess it's a product of out-of-context analytics. The average of tailenders against short bowling is very low, but that's mostly in the historical context of it being a surprise delivery. If they know you're bowling 4-5 an over with five fielders out on the legside those stats don't necessarily extrapolate and it just becomes a variance booster.

If you split county statistics by deliveries above and below 140kph slower bowling is more effective. The conditions actively discourage it.
